Let’s explore the great unknown! In this list we’re going over some of the best new upcoming space games we can’t wait to try out in 2025.
#15 Judas
When your world is literally falling apart around you, and it’s your fault, how far will you go to fix it? Or will you attempt to do it all alone to get out alive?
In Judas, you’ll play someone onboard a rapidly breaking starship. A plan is in place to get out alive, but you’ll need to work with others who are your enemies to get it done. So, what path will you choose? Will you work with them and hope you can get out safely?
Or will you betray them and ensure your survival above all else? The choice is yours.
#14 Falling Frontier
One of the things that we as humans can’t wait to do is go to a new star system and attempt to colonize it. In Falling Frontier, that’s exactly what you get to do! The catch is that there are rival factions from a previous Earth war that are also in the system, and they don’t want to play nice with you.
As a result, you’ll need to look over the system, build up your fleet and structures, and attempt to do all you can to beat off any attacks by these rivals.
What will the system look like when you’re done with it? Jump in and find out.
#13 Earth From Another Sun
Space as an entity is something that is vast in the best sense of the word. Seriously, the point of many sci-fi tales is that there are so many interesting things to do in space that the possibilities feel nearly endless. To that end, Earth From Another Sun will give you those options and let you see what you can do with them.
You’ll be dropped into a huge part of space, where you can attempt to craft a path for yourself that’ll lead to numerous endings. You can try to be a dominant force in the galaxy, or you can try to be someone a bit richer. Build, fight, craft, it’s all up to you in this game.
#12 EVE Vanguard
We’ll actually be talking about a few games from this series on this list, and the first one is an FPS called EVE Vanguard. In the game, you won’t be taking on massive armies or ships in space but become one of the “warclones” whose task is to take control of certain planets and wipe out any interference from the “local residents.” Don’t worry, it’s usually monsters.
With each planet you claim for your creators, the more you’ll be able to deal a key blow to your foes. So, wield your weapon, ensure your clone is prepped for any situation, and do what must be done!
#11 Revenge of the Savage Planet
Well, that’s not an ominous title at all! Revenge of the Savage Planet is a unique spin on space games, as you’ll be playing a crew of people who have been dumped onto a planet because your corporate overlords have officially dubbed you expendable. Yeah, that’s probably all of our futures, but what are you going to do?
In your case, you’ll want to explore the planets you have access to and use whatever materials and supplies you can find to try and get back to Earth. You know, so you can get some serious payback on those corporate fools?
Revenge will be sweet, if you live that long, that is.
#10 Retrieval
You are Hana Losche, the head of an exploration team who has ended up on a planet that has more than one secret waiting to be uncovered. The subway system you end up in is only one trippy place that you’ll have to work through, and with each step you take, you might find yourself looking at something truly frightening or dangerous.
What is within this place that threatens the lives of you and your crew? What will you have to do to try and make it out alive? What are the secrets that will change everything you thought you knew about this mission? Play the game and find out.
#9 Directive 8020
Many space games put you in impossible situations that you need to deal with in various ways. But in Directive 8020, the choices you make are much grander than you realize. You see, you’re part of a crew that is heading to a remote world in an attempt to save Earth. However, you soon crashland on the planet and learn the hard way that one of your crew has been replaced with an alien imposter.
With the mission still the most important thing and you need to survive to complete it, how will you try and determine who to save and who not to save? Your choices will affect everything.
#8 EVE Frontier
Now, here’s something you don’t hear every day. An upcoming title in this universe is being created through cryptocurrency and Blockchain. Yes, this is real, and it’s called EVE Frontier. Much like other games in this universe, you’ll be set in space with a specific goal. However, the goal with this one is simply to survive in the incredible and terrifying areas you end up in.
If you’re thinking, “Wait, isn’t blockchain and crypto a bit down in the dumps? Isn’t this a risk?” Well, yeah, it is. That’s what makes it so surprising that this vaunted team is doing this. We’ll just have to wait and see if it works out.
#7 Mars Attracts
Do you remember the cult classic movie that this game sounds like? Yeah, that’s intentional, as Mars Attracts is a theme park game based on that movie with just as dark a premise. In the game, you’ll play as the evil Martians, who are building up a rather large theme park on the red planet, and they need you to make it as spectacular as possible.
Oh, but it gets wilder. After all, what’s an amusement park without “star attractions?” In this case, that’s humanity! You’ll take humans from Earth and show them off…or experiment on them! It’s your park, after all. Do what you think sounds “the most fun.”
#6 EVE: Galaxy Conquest
For those who are looking for a more compact and mobile space experience, you’ll want to check out EVE: Galaxy Conquest. The game takes the beloved strategy title and takes it to mobile platforms for a new take on New Eden. Once again, you’ll start out in a fresh galaxy and then proceed to change it alongside numerous other players to see what can come of everything.
Will you attempt to create new empires that none can defeat? Will you build alliances with other players so you’ll all be stronger together? Or will you go off on another path entirely? The choice is yours.
#5 Haunted Space
What could possibly make space as a whole more frightening? Well, how about if you added a bunch of monsters from Lovecraftian lore that just so happen to have a sci-fi twist to them now? Would that meet the criteria in question? In Haunted Space, you’ll indeed find yourself in a universe where massive monsters have merged with the various debris that roams around deep space, and now you’ll have to try and take them down.
Along the way, you’ll go out on missions and control your ship in various ways to try and get through the challenges ahead. Do you think you can make it all work?
#4 Breathedge 2
They say that the vast reaches of space is dangerous to those who aren’t prepared for it. What also doesn’t help is when certain corporations attempt to make things better for themselves via space and leave you to try and clean up the messes from it. Such is the case with Breathedge 2.
You’ll embark on a quest across the stars to bring an end to a corrupt corporation. That won’t be easy, though, as they’re huge, you’re not, and you only have so many people helping you. To that end, you’ll need to take care of both your crew and your ship if you want any chance of getting a good ending.
#3 The Outer Worlds 2
When it comes to taking things to far-off or fantastical worlds, Obsidian Entertainment is easily one of the best in the business. That goes double when the game they’re making is an RPG.
The Outer Worlds 2 is their second entry in their spacefaring saga, and while there isn’t too much known about it, you can bet that there will be plenty to do and many choices to make. We do know that the game will take place in a different star system than before, which means all sorts of new things to interact with.
Plus, you’ll likely be able to build your protagonist however you want! So be who you want to be, then go have fun!
#2 Mass Effect 5
When you look at the stars, you have hope for what might await you in the future. But when you look at Mass Effect 5, you try to have hope that the mistakes of the past are indeed in the past!
While that may sound incredibly mean, we’re being honest here. BioWare has LONG since fallen off the cliff with its games and its pipelines and quality of titles. They only announced this 5th entry in the RPG series because of the backlash to the 4th entry and how bad it was overall.
So, can we have hope for a game when the company that made it isn’t what it was before? Well, until they reveal they can’t be trusted anymore, why not?
#1 Metroid Prime 4
Yes, it’s been a long time coming, and there is still a chance it could get delayed again. We understand your fears. But let’s look at the positive side and proclaim that Metroid Prime 4 is FINALLY coming out! Plus, it could come out really early in 2025 if we’re lucky. We’re not. But it’s nice to have hope!
Regardless of when it arrives, Samus Aran is back, and she’ll have her hands busy as the Space Pirates have teamed up with her old enemy in Sylux, and that means that something seriously sinister is afoot! So, prep your arm canon and get ready for a sci-fi adventure for the ages!
…hopefully.
