Prepare for battle! In this list we’re going to be showcasing a few upcoming war games we can’t wait to get our hands on in 2025.
#11 ’83
The game known as 83 is meant to be an alternate take on history itself. Mainly because the game tries to imagine a time when the Cold War…got very hot. To the extent that massive battles would need to be waged in order to protect the future.
This game is aiming to bring a lot of players to the table, because in each massive map, you’ll be able to hold over 80 players in total, meaning there will be a lot of people running and shooting on the map.
More than that though, you’ll have to work together in order to complete objectives that will change the battlefield and what needs to happen next.
#10 Broken Arrow
What happens when you mix real-time strategy war games with deck-building card games? You get Broken Arrow.
This game will test you in multiple ways, not the least of which is testing how you are able to build a deck full of units and ensure that you use them wisely in battle. Plus, there are two different factions that you’ll be able to take control of via the US and Russia.
With over 200 units in the game combined between the factions, you’ll have a good time trying to make the best deck possible. So test them all out, make the best battle plans possible, then take the fight to the enemy.
#9 The Mighty Eighth VR
Typically, when you play certain war games, and you’re given control of a plane, you’ll control it from a third-person perspective and only have the role of firing on enemy fighters or getting to certain parts of the map. In The Mighty Eighth VR, you’ll get far more interactive than that, as you’ll be part of a full-on fighter squadron and have to work together to complete missions and survive the war.
Through the first-person perspective of your VR headset, you’ll control both the plane and the guns on board to ensure that you get the job done. Work with your wingmen so that you never have to be alone.
#8 Earth From Another Sun
While this is a “war list,” Earth From Another Sun offers players a lot more variety than just that. In fact, it sets up an entire section of space for you to do just about anything you want within. For example, while there are massive battles you can do in space, and you can handle those battles in various ways, you can also ignore them if you want.
Perhaps you want to go and build a base for yourself on an uninhabited planet to see what you can create. Or, maybe you want to build a business for yourself and rule the galaxy with a corporate fist! It’s your universe to have fun in, so have at it!
#7 Dynasty Warriors Origins
Now, here is a franchise that hasn’t just built its name upon war, but it built up an entire franchise around its specific brand of fighting. Seriously, there have been numerous spinoffs featuring multiple franchises because of what this series has done. So, to hear that they’re going back to the beginning of it all with Dynasty Warriors Origins is a surprising move. Then again, maybe that’s exactly the change that this franchise needs!
The game will take you back to the literal beginning, where an “Unnamed Hero” will descend upon the Three Kingdoms and help shape the future. Wipe out enemies by the hundreds with various weapons to help your allies win the day.
#6 Sniper Elite: Resistance
Not all fights in wars take place on massive battlefields with hundreds or thousands of soldiers going at it. Instead, like in Sniper Elite: Resistance, you’ll find yourself dealing with foes from afar and using small numbers to slip in and out of areas, kill your targets, and then move on.
You’ll take point as the head of a French resistance movement. You’ve discovered that the Third Reich has created a weapon that could seriously shift the war in their favor. To prevent that from happening, you must carefully position yourself to get the right shot and then slowly take out your targets one by one. Every shot counts here, so don’t miss!
#5 Roman Empire Wars
The Roman Empire was one of the greatest empires the world ever knew, as its sheer size, strength, and ability made it something that truly couldn’t be taken down by an outside force but crumpled slowly from within. In Roman Empire Wars, you’ll take the role of Emperor during a key part of Rome’s history. Its enemies are everywhere, and all are looking to you for guidance on what to do next.
Go forth and summon your legions so you can take the fight to the enemy and crush them before they get any ideas. Build the Rome you want, and show why you are the right Emperor for the nation.
#4 Kaiserpunk
Just for the record, there are FAR too many games coming out soon that have “punk” in the title. Be creative, people! It shouldn’t be that hard to come up with a cool name for a video game! Venting aside, Kaiserpunk isn’t the game you might think it is. The title is put in an alternate version of the 20th century, and your goal is to build up a city-state to global power!
The good news is that you’ll have plenty of options and abilities to do so. However, you’ll also be facing off against the world itself, and a wrong move can put you behind the eight-ball. So, choose carefully!
#3 Warpaws
So, you want to play a war game that doesn’t feature humans, but instead involves dogs and cats? Sure, we can make that happen for you. That’s a weird request, but Warpaws is a game that invokes that desire. You’ll find yourself picking a side in the neverending war between dogs and cats, all the while being set in a World War II aesthetic.
But don’t let the look fool you, this game is deep, and it’s been designed to be fun to play no matter how you take to the battles themselves. Be loud and bold, or be sneaky and conniving. As long as you win, that’s what matters.
#2 Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Given the grand-scale plot and excellent character moments, some players forget that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is set in the Cold War. It’s a period of great strife, and only Naked Snake can work through a dangerous conspiracy that could plunge the whole world into war.
Slip into some old-school spy-thriller action and learn the true origins of Solid Snake, Foxhound, and more. With the remake, you’ll not only get upgraded visuals to make everything pop on the PS5 but there will be other improvements as well to ensure the game’s quality.
So are you ready, Snake? …Snake? SNAKE!!!!”
#1 Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra
There have been numerous Marvel games recently that have tried to get fans’ attention…with mixed results. However, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra will take things back to basics by literally putting us in World War II and showing us how two heroes attempt to save the world, even if they’re not exactly each others’ biggest fans.
In the title, you’ll play as Captain America during his earliest days in the war and as Black Panther, who has left Wakanda to try and stop the threat that is Hydra.
While there is still much about the game we don’t know; early signs point to this being a visually stunning title.
