If you want to truly get your scoop, Frank West needs to stick around and unlock the True Ending in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. You won’t leave by helicopter in this ending. Instead of just surviving, you uncover the truth and get to the heart of the conspiracy — and the story continues for another full day of survival against overwhelming odds. To get the best ending possible, you’ll need to complete every case and finish Overtime Mode.
During the final stretch of the story, everything changes if you meet with Isabella and shut down the radio jammer. Once in contact with HQ, things go from bad to worse. Special Forces arrive to sweep through the mall, killing zombies and any survivors you haven’t taken to safety yet. The soldiers are also extremely tough compared to the undead. Not even a good Machine Gun will slow them down for long.
We’ll explain how to fight soldiers below — and if you’re looking for more DRDR guides, learn where to find the best weapons, best skill book locations and best healing items to stock up on early.
How To Get The True Ending
To get the True Ending of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, you need to complete both 72-Hour Mode and Overtime Mode. It isn’t enough to reach the end of 72-Hour Mode, you also need to get the best possible ending. Depending on how many cases you solve, you’ll get very different endings.
- True Ending Requirements:
- Complete 72-Hour Mode by unlocking Ending A.
- Complete Overtime Mode.
To earn Ending A, you must complete all cases and visit Isabella at 10PM on the 21st. We’ll go into more detail below.
How To Unlock Ending A
In Dead Rising, you’ll need to earn Ending A to unlock Overtime Mode — an additional post-game run that leads to the True Ending. Follow these steps to earn Ending A.
- Ending A Requirements:
- Complete all main cases.
- Visit Isabella in Carlito’s Hideout (Northern Plaza) at 10PM on the 21st.
- Go to the Helipad above the Security Room at 12PM (Noon) on the 22nd.
At midnight after meeting with Isabella, if you’ve finished all over cases, the special forces will arrive and begin their cleanup operation. Any civilians you haven’t saved so far will die instantly here. All the civilians you have rescued will escape with Otis on a stolen helicopter.
Special Forces are soldiers armed with Machine Guns and Rocket Launchers. They’re much more difficult than any other human opponents you’ve faced so far. If they defeat Frank, they’ll arrest him and take all his items (and clothes) — you’ll be tied to a chopper on the helipad. To escape, tap the button when the soldiers aren’t looking. If you’re caught, you’ll lose a huge chunk of time. Take it slow and tap only when both soldiers aren’t looking.
- How To Fight Soldiers: Soldiers are extremely tough and most of your weapons aren’t good enough. The best way to fight soldiers is with grapple moves — picking them up, throwing them, the running head smash or the disembowel. All of the grapple attacks [R1/RB + Attack] will kill soldiers in a single hit.
- Roll toward soldiers, dodging their gunshots, then perform grapples to wipe them out. Alternatively, if you do get a Rocket Launcher, the explosion will kill soldiers in one hit. Save one of these and use it to take out soldiers when you’re in a difficult situation.
- The Machine Gun is also effective at long range. If you’re far away from soldiers, start shooting at their body. Don’t aim for the head, the helmet will absorb the attacks. Keep shooting until they’re down. They won’t shoot back until they move into close-range. If they get too close, dodge-roll away and dive behind cover or a corner wall. Wait for them to approach and shoot them before they can reach you.
Soldiers are especially difficult in Overtime Mode. At the end of this mode, you can avoid them, reach the Security Room and wait until the helicopter arrives on the 22nd.
If you’ve visited Isabella and completed all the cases, simply wait at the helipad to unlock Ending A. This will also unlock Overtime Mode.
Completing Overtime Mode
Overtime Mode takes place directly after Ending A and sees Frank West meeting Isabella in Carlito’s Hideout in North Plaza. You’ll need to find multiple key items for Isabella while avoiding zombies, special forces and new drone enemies.
- NOTE: You only have 24 hours to complete this mode. You’ll need to circle the entire mall to collect key items for Isabella. These key items don’t take up inventory space, but because of the limited time, you will need to avoid being captured by Special Forces as much as possible.
If you’re caught by Special Forces here, you’ll lose a huge chunk of time. You can be caught at least once, but if you’re caught more, you’ll risk running out of time.
You’ll need to find Key Items and deliver them to Isabella — then find an additional generator near the clock tower in Leisure Park. You can collect all the key items she needs in a single run around the mall, return to talk to her, then go to Leisure Park to collect the generator and learn about the underground exit to the mall.
After that, you’ll need to collect 5 Queen Bees. This is easily the hardest and most time-consuming step. There are ways to make it easier.
- How To Get Queen Bees:
- To reach the endgame section of Overtime Mode, you’ll need to deliver five Queen Bees to Isabella. Each bee takes up one slot in your inventory, so you can return often to deliver bees.
- Using the Nectar mixed juice will guarantee a Queen spawn. It will literally appear right next to Frank. To make Nectar, mix Orange Juice and Orange Juice in a Blender — that can easily be done at Colombian Roastmasters in Paradise Plaza.
- Look for zombies that are stationary and have their hands raised above their heads. These zombies are always carrying queens.
- For many, many queens, go to the Maintenance Tunnels and drive a vehicle in circles at any large group of zombies. Once the area is clear, you’ll usually find 1-2 Queens flying in the remains. You’ll find a car under the Supermarket (North Plaza) and Paradise Plaza.
Return the five Queen Bees to Isabella, and she’ll ask you if you’re ready to escape. When you’re ready, agree and you’ll move on to the endgame. Bring plenty of melee weapons, healing items, and machine guns. The tunnels are packed wall-to-wall with zombies, so the more items you bring the better.
While underground, holding hands with Isabella will also help. She has a special perfume that makes her immune to zombies — they won’t attack her. Stay close and move with her and the zombies (mostly) won’t attack Frank. To reach the end, look for sewer grates near the large gates. When you’re close to one with Isabella, Frank can interact to open the grate and let Isabella through.
At the end of the tunnel, use the lever on the upper level to open the exits and reach the vehicle. Entering the jeep will initiate the final boss fight and the end of the game. We’ll talk about the final boss more in-depth in a separate guide, but you won’t need items or healing for this final fight. All you’ll have is what you’ve earned by leveling up.
Defeating Brock, the final boss, will finally end the game and earn you the True Ending. You finally got your scoop, Frank West.
