The robot revolution comes to Chocobo Races.

The fastest racer in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is the incredible Mecha-Chocobo. All other Chocobos are unlocked by capturing the matching type in each of the six regions. But the Mecha-Chocobo is special. The Mecha-Chocobo is so special you can’t actually equip any gear when racing at the Gold Saucer. Instead, the Mecha-Chocobo has a set of stats that can’t be changed or altered. No reason to customize, because the Mecha-Chocobo is the best racer in the game.

If you want to turn all other races into a total joke, you’ll want to unlock the Mecha-Chocobo right away. This special bird is only available in the Chocobo Races event in the Gold Saucer. Unfortunately, you can’t ride it around in the open-world.

How To Unlock The Mecha-Chocobo Quest

The Mecha-Chocobo is unlocked during the final optional quest in the game. You must complete all other quests to unlock the ‘Can’t Stop Won’t Stop‘ quest. During this quest, you’ll be able to complete a step and earn the Mecha-Chocobo.

  • To unlock ‘Can’t Stop Won’t Stop‘ quest, you must complete all other quests in the six regions.
  • Grasslands: 6 Quests
  • Junon Region: 7 Quests
  • Corel Region: 8 Quests
  • Gongaga Region: 6 Quests
  • Cosmo Canyon Region: 5 Quests
  • Nibel Region: 3 Quests

All of these quests will be available in Chapter 12 and Chapter 13 — some quests will only unlock after completing other quests. Once you finish them all, one final quest will appear in the Costa Del Sol Community Board.

How To Unlock The Mecha-Chocobo

The Mecha-Chocobo is unlocked during the ‘Can’t Stop Won’t Stop‘ quest. Starting this quest, you’ll meet the Ultimate Party Animal — a Shinra Middle-Manager. He’ll challenge you to five different activities, but there’s only one activity we need to complete here.

  • After starting the ‘Can’t Stop Won’t Stop’ quest, go to Chocobo Square in the Gold Saucer.
  • Talk to the Middle Manager and complete his special race. This is a challenging race — and a very long one.
  • Winning this race will unlock the Mecha-Chocobo.

To make this race easier, unlock the Hyperion Gear for your Chocobo. This powerful set gives huge bonuses to your Yellow Chocobo (or any mount) during the third lap. You can unlock this gear by completing three races in the Grade 2 race tracks in Chocobo Square. I highly recommend using this set to win the race. Complete these races to earn the full set.

  • The Odin Straights (Grade 2): Complete to earn Hyperion’s Helm.
  • The Alexander Siege (Grade 2): Complete to earn Hyperion’s Armor.
  • The Phoenix Trial (Grade 2): Complete to earn Hyperion’s Shin Guards.

More About The Mecha-Chocobo

The Mecha-Chocobo is a unique chocobo that cannot equip gear and can not be customized. It is a mechanical bird with extreme stats that make it one of the best and easiest to use in the game. Here’s a quick overview of the Mecha-Chocobo’s strengths.

  • Extreme Speed, Weight and Cornering.
  • Cornering makes this one of the easiest-to-use Chocobos. It can make tight turns easily and evade traps better than any other mount.
  • Lower acceleration means you’ll need to collect blue balloons to reach max speed faster.
  • Comes with the Birdserk Power. Activating encases the chocobo in electricity — press [L1] when activated to zap nearby racers.

The Mecha-Chocobo isn’t perfect but it’s close. It has such high speed and cornering, you’ll be able to outrun even the Champion with a little skill.
