Strategy titles tend to make gamers think first and react second. If you’re in that kind of mindset, check out these upcoming titles!
#15 Manor Lords
Are you ready to head into medieval times and see if you have what it takes to make become a worthy lord? If so, Manor Lords is a great place to start. You’ll start the game with nothing and slowly build up the manor of your dreams. The fun part is that you’ll have to truly take things on step at a time and create the house itself. Then, start expanding and see how big your community can be!
Just remember, this is medieval times, which means you’ll need to defend your followers and lead them to victory against all kinds of rival groups! Raise your sword and defend your land!
#14 Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance TD
When it comes to tower defense games like Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance TD, it’s all about the strategy. In fact, if you don’t implement the right strategy, you won’t get far in the game! All the entries in this series have been incredible and have won awards for their gameplay, and the fifth entry aims to take things in new directions.
For example, this title has you playing as the two factions from past titles, but they’re now working together! Implement new strategies and units so you can take on this threat that brought them together and keep the world safe.
#13 Terminus: Zombie Survivors
One of the things that numerous zombie movies and TV shows have revealed to us is that those who have a strategy tend to make it out alive more times than not. Those who ignore the plan or attempt to do their own thing, tend to die quickly.
In Terminus: Zombie Survivors, you’re one of the few remaining people not infected by the zombie virus. You waited things out at first, but now you have to go and reach the place known as Terminus to truly be safe. Every step you take could lead you to doom, so be mindful of all you do. After all, you never know where the next zombie lurks.
#12 Tactical Breach Wizards
What happens when you put magic in the modern world and tie it into cheesy storylines and combat? You get Tactical Breach Wizards! Set in the modern day, but with magic all around, you’ll play a group of “misfit wizards” who stumble upon a conspiracy and must unravel it before things get even worse. However, that won’t be easy when everyone who has power is trying to stop them. That includes…a traffic cop!!!
Strategy is what you make of it in this game, and that means you’re welcome to try anything to see just how far your magic, guts, and craziness will take you. So, yeah, have fun!
#11 Frostpunk 2
Imagine a world where the cold is everywhere, and heat is literally the power source for survival. That is the world of Frostpunk 2, and in this sequel to the hit city-building and survival game, the power lies in your hands not just to keep the city alive but from crushing under its own weight.
You see, the city you govern is now much larger, and that means there are people trying to usurp control and build the city to their own desires versus the desires of the greater good. What that means to you depends on what kind of “Steward” you want to be.
Build this city to be a shining light in the cold or a bitter place to live. It’s your call.
#10 Age of Mythology: Retold
When it comes to RTS titles, strategy is literally everything. But in Age of Mythology: Retold, that strategy will take a turn for the mythological, as you’ll be able to bring in gods and monsters from legends to help aid you in your quest for domination!
Regardless of the pantheon you call your own, you’ll have many options on how to use their abilities and units to get things done.
You can use Zeus’ lightning to strike down foes or summon massive tidal waves to wipe everyone away! Either way, the choice is yours; just don’t be mad when others use their gods against you!
#9 Outpost: Infinity Siege
Sometimes, strategy games are a bit more “straightforward” than some would have you believe. For example, in Outpost: Infinity Siege, there is a ton of strategy elements to the game, but they’re also of the kind that’s about becoming more powerful through weaponry than anything else.
In the game, you’ll get a mobile outpost that you’ll construct to take on all foes that you come across. Use the platform to travel the world, get more resources to increase your strength, and wipe out everything that dares challenge you! Just how big and powerful will your outpost be when you’re done with it? Jump in and find out!
#8 Empire of the Ants
Believe it or not, Empire of the Ants is based on a hit book. Showing that inspiration for video games can come from anywhere.
Just like the book, you’ll be a singular ant who attempts to guide the rest of its colony to a “promised land.” But to do so, you’ll have to trek across the wilds of the world and take on challenges as they come. A beautiful photorealistic world awaits you as you attempt to work your way through the harsh and danger-filled terrain to see where your new home can be.
As the days wax on, the seasons will change, and you’ll need to adapt to every scenario!
#7 MENACE
The best-laid plans of mice and men tend to fail when certain events shake things up. In MENACE, you’ll be a marine of the republic who was tasked with going to some of the “wild worlds” and trying to bring them into the care of your party.
But no sooner do you arrive than bad things start happening. A new threat emerges, cuts off your support from the “core worlds,” and now, you have to rally the rowdy bunch of pirates, mercs, and smugglers to try and fight back.
Use what you can, and don’t be afraid to play dirty to survive! Remember, you’re all that stands between the universe and a terrible evil.
#6 Barkhan
Inevitably, when we reach for the stars and discover new worlds to try and colonize and harvest for resources, other races will attempt the same thing. In Barkhan, three factions have come to a singular world with the goal of claiming all it has for themselves.
The question you’ll face is which faction to choose and how you’ll use them to win. One clan has vehicles of incredible power that can blast away foes. The second uses speedy and precise armaments to deal damage exactly how they want. And the final one has such advanced technology that they can take you down before you realize they’re there!
So, which will you choose?
#5 ZEPHON
Oh, look! It’s a game where you have to help humanity survive a post-apocalyptic future that monsters sprouted up from! We totally haven’t heard of something like that before…
Anyway, in ZEPHON, an alien invasion mixed with nuclear destruction led to humanity almost being wiped out. When they did emerge from their hiding places, nothing was like before, and the fight for survival began!
The alien menace is still on the planet, and the mutated remains of the world are ready to kill you! So rise up and rally humanity so that this isn’t your last stand! Take back what’s left of the world so you can live in it!
#4 HeatWave
Okay, how about a near-post-apocalyptic game that you can totally understand? In HeatWave, you’ll be in Alaska, and global warming has pretty much destroyed the planet. Yes, global warming is real; don’t fight it.
Due to various events, Alaska has become “unprotected” by the mainland United States, and some enemy nations are coming to take it for themselves! Obviously, you don’t want that!
So, the people of the state rise up and attempt to fight back! Control your guerrilla groups wisely and take out any foes you face! Will you be able to repel them? Or will the numbers disadvantage be your undoing?
#3 Ara: History Untold
History is written by the victors, and it’s time for you to be one of those victors! In Ara: History Untold, you’ll pick a nation and attempt to lead them across history so that you can make them the greatest nation in the world!
Plus, like the real leaders of the world, you’ll determine your nation’s actions based solely on your whims. They can be as peaceful or aggressive as you desire. It’s your nation; run it how YOU want it to be run.
Just remember, not everyone will like your reign and attempt to take you down. Build up your armies and fight them off!
#2 Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes
Here’s a game that has been talked about since 2020, when it hit Kickstarter and took over like a bolt from the blue. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is a deep RPG title where you’ll take part in a war for a realm that goes far beyond anything that its main characters could’ve imagined.
As the title says, you’ll have the option of teaming up with over a hundred heroes! Each is unique and has its own story to tell. That means you’ll need to be smart about who you choose, who comes with you into battle, and how you’ll shape your team to take on all threats!
Do you have what it takes to save this world?
#1 Persona 3 Reload
Didn’t see that coming? Oh wait, that’s the fifth entry’s line. Never mind!
Jokes aside, Persona 3 Reload is the next big release from Atlus, and they’ve slowly been dropping teases about how good the full-on remake is. They have improved graphics, a battle system that resembles the popular 5th entry, and a new voice cast to bring the characters to life in fun ways!
Plus, the story of the original game is intact and ‘streamlined’ in some ways so that no matter how old or new you are to the franchise, you’ll be just fine playing it!
