The blue blur and his multi-coloured friends are back thanks to the release of the rather excellent, Sonic Superstars. A throwback to classic Sonic whilst also including new mechanics, characters, and themes to keep the formula feeling fresh, it’s one of Sonic’s best outings in a long time.
Despite the revamping of classic Sonic, some mechanics make a return. The most obvious, and arguably most popular, is the return of Super Sonic. However this time, all of Sonic’s buddies can share in the legendary form. In this guide, we will go over how you can unlock this powerful new form, and what it brings to the table for each character.

How To Unlock Super Sonic In Sonic Superstars
Unlocking Super Sonic is fairly straightforward, although it can be a bit time-consuming if you don’t have a knack for exploration. To unlock Super Sonic, all you have to do is collect all seven Chaos Emeralds. Once this is done, you are good to go.
Of course, each Emerald is hidden in a World, and finding the Golden Ring Portal that leads to them isn’t always an easy feat. Not only that but just finding the Golden Ring Portal isn’t enough to claim the Chaos Emerald. To do that, you need to complete a Bonus Stage which has Sonic (or pals) swinging through a bizarre dimension whilst chasing the Emerald. Once you are close enough, you can grab the Emerald and end the stage.
Due to the hidden nature of the Chaos Emeralds and their associated Golden Ring Portal, we will have a separate guide going over how to find and collect each Chaos Emerald shortly.
What Does Super Sonic Do In Sonic Superstars?
Traditionally, Sonic’s ‘super’ form would grant him invulnerability and an increase in top speed and acceleration. Sonic Superstars sticks close to its roots, and you can expect to receive those very same benefits here. In fact, all of Sonic’s pals reap the same rewards when going ‘super’. Well, all but Trip.
Trip is a new character introduced in Sonic Superstars and they have a unique ‘super’ form. Trip doesn’t just get a fancy golden form, no, no, no. Trip turns into a DRAGON, which is as awesome as it sounds. They can shoot fire, and fly around the place, and when Trip can’t fit through a gap, they turn into a raging fireball. As far as ‘super’ forms go, Trip takes the cake here.
Super Sonic Restrictions
Of course, the ‘super’ forms are incredibly powerful and they do have some restrictions to make sure you can’t trivialise the game. That being said, these restrictions are incredibly minor. The main one is that you can’t turn into Super Sonic/Trip/Amy/Tails/Knuckles until you have 50 Rings.
Once you have your Rings, you can transform by selecting it from your Emerald Power list. Your Rings will then slowly start to deplete, and once you run out, you will revert back to your regular form. Thankfully, you can prolong your transformation by picking up Rings.
That’s all we have on Sonic Superstars for now. Be sure to check out our other Guides, Lists, and Walkthroughs for more Sonic content.
