Lords of the Fallen: How To Unlock The Blacksmith

October 13, 2023 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Upgrade your weapons and buy new ones with the Blacksmith.

The blacksmith isn’t available right at the start of Lords of the Fallen — it isn’t even available after reaching the main hub at Skyrest Bridge. To unlock the blacksmith, you’ll need to reach the far depths of Pilgrim’s Perch, and even then, it’s possible to miss. If you want to start buying weapons and useful gear like healing items, you’ll need to unlock the Blacksmith. Here’s a quick guide covering where to find them and have to rescue them.

The Blacksmith has an incredibly important function; they can upgrade your gear. By spending souls, you can enhance your weapons for a full upgrade. This is essential for dealing the most damage possible. You can also purchase useful items like the Short Bow or Crossbow. You’ll want to buy one of these ASAP if you don’t have on already. Finally, you can buy Briostones that slowly heal you over time. You can stock up on an infinite supply of these stones, making exploration in the open-world much easier with an additional healing resource.

How To Find The Blacksmith

Before you can buy common gear or upgrade weapons you’ll need to unlock the Blacksmith. This is technically a missable NPC — but he’s so essential, you’ll want to unlock him ASAP. You’ll be able to rescue him in the Pilgrim’s Perch area. This area becomes available after reaching the Skyrest Bridge hub.

  • Blacksmith Location: Reach Pilgrim’s Perch and unlock the Bellroom Vestige. This is about halfway through the area — inside a cave with a disabled lift leading down.
  • Once you’ve unlocked the Bellroom Vestige shortcut lift, ride it down and climb (or drop) down to the prison cell area below. There’s a Divine Knight and several dogs here. Kill the Divine Knight to collect the Prison Cell Key.
  • Talk to the blacksmith working in the nearby cell. Give him the key to Gerlinde and she’ll automatically return to the Skyrest Bridge hub.

The Blacksmith can upgrade your gear and allows you to purchase valuable items like a Crossbow and arrows. Buy these ASAP. They’re incredibly useful for dealing with enemies on high ledges or snipers that attack from far away. You can also start buying Briostones — these are small healing items that slowly heal over time. Very, very useful for exploring.

If you haven’t unlocking the Bellroom Shortcut, here’s a quick primer.

How To Unlock The Bellroom Shortcut: Progress further into the Pilgrim’s Perch. Using the Umbral, you’ll need to follow a twisting path through the cliffsife wooden structures until you reach an Umbral Barrier. Destroy the three anchors attached to the gate to clear the path.

  • Through the barrier, you’ll reach a new cavern. Drop down to find the shortcut lift. Ride it up to unlock it permanently.
  • To make the area easier, use the Umbral Flowerbed near before climbing down to the umbral platform covered in husks of Umbral moths. Use a Vestige Seedling to create a temporary checkpoint here — there’s wooden plank shortcut nearby you can unlock.

Once you have the Bellroom Vestige shortcut lift unlocked, reaching the blacksmith is no problem.
