Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster: How to Recruit Mog to Your Party

Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster has a massive cast of characters for you to interact with and recruit but some of them are easy to miss.

When it comes to rosters that offer a sizable amount of characters to recruit, few games this side of Suikoden II or Chrono Cross can rival the 14-strong cast of Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster. However, if you’ve never played the summon or esper heavy masterpiece of the SNES era, you might not know that Final Fantasy VI also contains the first appearance of another recurring character from the series, like Cid or Gilgamesh, and that’s a well-known moogle named Mog.

In fact, Mog is one of the first notable characters that you’ll meet in Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster. All the same, you can’t recruit him into your party until much later. Furthermore, like nearly all of the characters in this celebrated entry in the series, you’ll have to recruit him twice: once in the World of Balance and then again in the World of Ruin.

Though this might sound a bit daunting, luckily, if you’ve already missed your chance to get Mog in the World of Balance, you can still recruit him in the World of Ruin, like most of the missable characters in the first half of the game. Sadly, though, you won’t have access to all of his moves if you don’t recruit him in both scenarios, so if you’re a completionist or someone who doesn’t want to replay the game to see it all, you’re going to want to nab him early on.

How to Recruit Mog in Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster

Though you’ll actually meet Mog much earlier in your adventure, during the opening parts of the game, you can’t recruit him until much later. Once you’ve gone through the Magitek Research Facility, you can head back to Narshe, where Mog will be held hostage by a dangerous thief who goes by the moniker of Lone Wolf.

You need to go to the cliffs of Narshe, where you’ll encounter the duo and their conflict. However, the two will fall from the cliff, and you’ll be forced to decide who to save. As if this weren’t an easy choice, especially in a traditional JRPG like Final Fantasy VI. Make the smart choice and save Mog to have him join your party. If you want to make the objectively wrong decision, however, you can save Lone Wolf and get a (checks notes) Gold Hairpin accessory for your troubles.

Where to Find Mog in the World of Ruin

Head back to Narshe and explore the caves after the apocalyptic events that occur on The Floating Continent, and you’ll find Mog back where you first met him in the caves with Locke. He can also help you to find another optional character that you’ll want to recruit: Umaro, the yeti or abominable snowman.
