While the Dead Space remake is largely faithful to the original game, one of the big changes that’s come to it is the addition of security clearance levels. The original Dead Space was a mostly linear survival horror that was broken up with some small bats of exploration but, while it certainly maintains some of the linear nature from the original, the remake gives players a lot more freedom to explore the USG Ishimura.
As players start poking around the depths of the ship, they’ll begin to encounter doors and containers locked to those without security clearance level 1. Here’s everything you need to know about getting security clearance level 1 access.

Security Clearance Level 1 Location
Getting security clearance level 1 in the Dead Space remake is pretty simple and is granted in an unmissable story section of the game in Chapter 2: Intensive Care. To get it, progress through the story until Isaac finds himself in the medical ward of the USG Ishimura. After finding the components to build a bomb to blow up the barricade, you’ll find yourself in the morgue.
Inside the morgue, you’ll find plenty of dead bodies littering the ground. Stomp on as many as you can (they won’t give you any items but it’ll make the upcoming fight a little bit easier) and then enter the walled-off section of the room opposite to where you entered the morgue from. When you step inside, you’ll see a cutscene of the captain of the Ishimura’s body being turned into a necromorph in front of you.
Fight off the captain, whatever other bodies the flying necromorph transforms, and the flying necromorph itself. Once they’re all taken care of, Isaac will get a call from Hammond asking if he’s gotten the captain’s RIG yet. At the end of the conversation, he’ll note that you now have security clearance level 1 meaning that you’ll be able to now unlock any door or container marked as being locked to those without clearance.
Now that you have security clearance level 1, you’ll need to be on the lookout for security clearance level 2. Here’s where to find it.
