While there are plenty of video games for you to play on your own, there are just as many to play with others, including your significant other. If you have a Switch, check these games out.
#31 1-2-Switch
We will start with one of the original launch titles for the Nintendo Switch. 1-2-Switch wasn’t so much a game as it was a “tech demo” for the Joy-Cons and their incredible range of motion.
So why is this a perfect game to play with your partner? Well, there are some fun minigames in the title to enjoy. Plus, you’ll get a lesson on how to use the Joy-Cons individually, as that’s something you’ll have to do through many of the upcoming gaming adventures.
Oh, and did we mention you can milk a cow in this game? Because you can, so you should try that out.
#30 It Takes Two
Now that you know what the Nintendo Switch can do, it’s time to put it to the test with your partner in one of the best co-op titles of recent times. That’s why we’re putting it on the list early, so you know to get it immediately.
It Takes Two stars parents who are going to get a divorce. Their child discovers this, and their tears transform them into dolls. To free yourselves from this “new state,” you’ll work together to solve puzzles. The twist is that these can only be solved through teamwork. So you’re about to test your relationship with your partner to see if you can get through the game without having your own relationship issues!
#29 Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes
If you’ve ever been in a long-term relationship, you know that communication is one of the most important things. If you can’t express yourself meaningfully to your partner, how can you grow?
If you need a little push in talking about important things, get Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes. The game is simple. One of you will be a bomb diffuser who must stop a bomb from exploding. Your partner and other friends, if you so choose, have the schematics for the bomb and must guide you from one step to the next to get the bomb stopped before it blows!
Good luck!
#28 Don’t Starve Together
Would you trust your partner with your life? Would you be able to count on them in a survival scenario should one appear to you both? You’ll find out in Don’t Starve Together.
The classic survival title has a multiplayer version that you can enjoy on Switch, and it’ll challenge you and your partner to work together to outlast your new circumstances.
You’ll be stranded on a mysterious island, and your goal is to survive it at all costs! Work together to build a shelter, find food and other necessities, and find the truth behind what brought you here!
Do you think you can survive together? If so, then do it, and don’t starve!
#27 LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
This next title goes out to all the fans of a galaxy far, far away. There aren’t too many titles from this franchise that have meaningful co-op, but LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is one of the exceptions to that rule.
You’ll play through all nine mainline films in the game and see their “LEGO versions” firsthand. Of course, they won’t be as deep as the movies, but there’s plenty of comedy to go around.
The true fun lies in the gameplay. You’ll pick from a vast roster of Star Wars characters and use their unique weapons and abilities to collect bricks and progress through the level.
So use the Force, or whatever you have, and have fun!
#26 Streets of Rogue
Sometimes you want to be the person or being that wrecks a city. It can be fun, and when you have numerous options on how to cause chaos? The possibilities are endless!
Such is the case with Streets of Rogue! In it, you’ll be put in a procedurally-generated city as you go through it. The game also has advanced AI that controls every character, and they’ll react to you based on what you do to them.
More times than not, you’ll kill them and have various ways to do that. You can be a soldier, a doctor, a bartender, or a gorilla! So pick what you want, let your partner do the same, and have at it!
#25 Pode
Perhaps that last game was too “much” for you, but that’s fine. We have something more calm and relaxing to enjoy in this entry.
Pode features two unlikely characters coming together to explore an ancient world. Through teamwork, you’ll travel to a land inspired by Norwegian culture and attempt to work through a mountain to bring life back to the area.
Both of your party members have unique abilities that can help crack these puzzles. So learn how to use them well, and then work alongside your partner to be in sync when the time comes.
What awaits you at the peak of this area? Jump in together and find out!
#24 Unravel Two
The original title in this franchise was unique, but Unravel Two takes it to a new level by giving you two Yarnys to control.
As you make this “connection,” you’ll need to work together to travel through a land that has been stripped of life. However, the further you go through this world, the more the land will return to its life-filled roots! But to do so, you must overcome numerous puzzles and challenges.
But you won’t be the only characters in this world. You’ll dive headlong into a story filled with gripping beings and emotions that showcase the world in a new light.
#23 Urban Flow
Have you ever wanted to control the traffic lights to get where you need to be faster? Of course, you have! Getting stuck in traffic is the worst, and life would be better for some if you could make things go how you picture.
In Urban Flow, you’ll get to control all the traffic lights in a city and see if you can keep things flowing at a good rate. The goal is simple, don’t let accidents happen, don’t create traffic jams, and keep everyone happy.
That’ll be easier to do with a partner to co-op the task with, as you can divide and conquer to ensure traffic flow!
#22 Tools Up!
Renovating a house is no joke; it takes a lot of work and the right people for the job. Tools Up! allows you to be the person renovating multiple houses to complete your dream of being one of the best remodelers out there!
But you can’t do it alone. Team up with your partner and possibly some friends to help expedite things and ensure you finish everything on time!
You’ll have nothing but blueprints to work with each remodel job. Read it the best you can, then work with your team to complete the owner’s vision!
The better you do, the more work you’ll get going forward!
#21 39 Days To Mars
Are you ready for a unique adventure unlike anything else on this list? 39 Days To Mars puts a hilarious spin on space travel by having you become two men from the 19th century who are boldly trying to reach the red planet.
The keyword is “trying,” as their adventures go haywire rather quickly, and it’s up to you and your partner to help them complete their quest.
Through teamwork, you’ll work with the materials you have and attempt to reach Mars. These bite-sized quests will be fun and never take up too much of your time. So why not try something a bit more comedic?
#20 Moving Out
Anyone who has ever had to move out of a place knows what a hassle it can be. So now, imagine trying to move out when the world has wacky physics!
That’s the challenge you face in Moving Out. The game has you starting up a moving company and attempting to get through each job with minimal damage to the property and items. Start with small jobs, then work your way up to huge moves!
Why move everything yourself? Bring your partner in for a co-op challenge that’ll have you wobbling around the place together!
How fast do you think you can move out of a house?
#19 Luigi’s Mansion 3
The younger brother of Mario found lots of fame with his ghostbusting franchise. But in Luigi’s Mansion 3, the challenges he faces will be so great he might need a little help from your partner to get through.
In the game, Luigi, Mario, Peach, and the others head to a luxurious hotel for a nice, relaxing vacation. However, the crew is abducted as they sleep! Except for Luigi, of course, so now, he must pick up his legendary vacuum and get ready to suck up all the ghosts he finds!
In the co-op mode, one of you will play Luigi, and the other will play Gooigi! Use your dual vacuums to ensure no ghost gets away!
#18 Snipperclips
Snipperclips is one of many titles on this list designed to be a unique co-op adventure. In the title, you will play as two friends who must solve puzzles that revolve around the two changing their shapes.
For example, you might need to pop a balloon, so you’ll cut one of the characters so they get a point on their head to pop it. Or you might need to catch something and thus cut into the characters to get a cavity so they can get it once it falls.
The puzzles are fast-paced and fun; you’ll need to think fast and work together to get the desired result!
#17 Overcooked 2
Many games on this list will provide a challenge for you and your partner to overcome, but Overcooked 2 will put you to an extreme test if you allow it.
The beloved cooking game truly cranks things up in its sequel and doesn’t hold anything back. You’ll have to work together with your partner to complete every order that comes your way. Of course, it doesn’t help that the kitchens you cook in are anything but basic. Each has its own design and complications, so adapt on the fly and get the meals cooked and delivered!
Fun and frantic gameplay await you!
#16 Terraria
Have you ever wanted to explore a unique world with your partner? A place where you can do whatever you want with them and have no limits put on you? If so, then Terraria is your dream ‘couple game.’
In the title, you’ll be put onto a procedurally-generated world and left to your desires. We mean that literally, you can do whatever you want once you’re in the world.
If you want to work with your partner to build a nice place to call home, you can do that! Or, if you want to get weapons and go on an adventure spanning the entire planet, you can do that too!
Each world is randomized with each playthrough. So play the game one way, then start over and play it another!
#15 Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
We will be specific with Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, mainly because only half of the game is co-op. But it’s still a great package deal with fun content to enjoy, regardless of whether you’re playing alone or with a partner.
In the main game, you can co-op with your partner and two other friends should you want and travel the world as Mario, Princess Peach, Luigi, or Toad! You’ll again endeavor to stop Bowser from completing his evil plots, and you’ll have plenty of power-ups to take him down!
So don’t miss out on this fun adventure!
#14 Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
We’ll admit that this next one is for a very specific kind of couple. Specifically, this is for a couple that likes to mow down enemies with various weapons and feels no remorse for mowing down thousands of them by the time they’re done with the title.
If that sounds fun for you both, get Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity!
Oh, you’re still here? Ok then!
The game acts as a “prequel” to Breath of the Wild but delivers some big twists to highlight its fresh story. Pick your characters and then charge through the maps to kill enemies, capture bases, and protect your allies!
Will you be able to change the course of fate?
#13 Nintendo Switch Sports
There are plenty of sports games for you to enjoy on Switch, and Nintendo Switch Sports is arguably the more relaxing of the set we’re about to discuss.
The game is a follow-up to the classic Nintendo Wii titles and will again have you using your controllers to move your Mii and dominate sports events.
You can go bowling, soccer, volleyball, sword fighting, and more! The game is easy to understand with simple controls, and you’ll want to challenge yourself to improve. Plus, new games are being added to the title over time, so enjoy what you have right now and see what arrives later!
#12 Mario Tennis Aces
If you’re looking for something more intense in the action sports style, try Mario Tennis Aces. The game will have you hitting the tennis court in style and seeing how good you are at hitting the ball in bounds.
Each character on the roster has stats and abilities you must adapt to and use carefully. Some are better power players, others are faster, while a few focus on technique more than anything.
If you hit the shot just right, you can get easy points! If you do so poorly, you’ll break your racket and put yourself in a hole!
Are you ready to be an ace?
#11 Mario Golf: Super Rush
So you’re not a tennis fan? That’s fine, how about golf? Mario Golf: Super Rush was a rebirth of the classic N64 title but with plenty of additions to test your skills.
You’ll pick your favorite Mushroom Kingdom character and hit the links to try to sink every shot in record time! But if you need a little help to get acclimated to the game, there’s a single-player story mode you can try out ahead of time.
The multiplayer portions feature various modes, including a battle mode, speed golf, and more! So get ready to say FORE!!! Because you might need to before too long.
#10 Mario Strikers Battle League
Oh, Tennis is a no-go, too? Fine! How about Mario Strikers Battle League? The World Cup was last year, so some of you might be in the mood for a soccer kick!
In it, you’ll assemble a team of four Mushroom Kingdom characters and attempt to take on rivals in high-intensity soccer matches! Build your team with not only the right skills but the right armor to accentuate them! You’ll customize your squad from top to bottom, so don’t miss an opportunity to improve!
Plus, you can make your own club with your partner and friends and then challenge others online to prove your supremacy on the pitch!
#9 Super Mario Party
Many young relationships were affected by the Mario Party series in its infancy, and now, that trend can continue with Super Mario Party!
The franchise got new life on the Switch, and the changes are welcome. You’ll go up against your partner, friends, online compatriots, or whoever else you want. So choose your board and game mode and see who can come out on top!
The minigame-focused title will challenge you in various ways. So pay attention to the rules and your opponents, and don’t make a careless mistake!
Will you be the life of this party? Or the one that everyone conspires against to ensure they lose?
#8 Super Mario Maker 2
So you’re tired of games that are too competitive or action-oriented? How about one that is more about building something beautiful?
Super Mario Maker 2 is the perfect title to test how well you work together as you can construct the most beautiful or epic Mario levels the world has ever seen. You can choose the visual style from multiple past games and then use the assets to make whatever comes to mind.
Or, you can make a level for your partner and see if they can top it, and vice versa! So, go big, think outside the box, and create the levels only you and your partner can create!
#7 Super Mario Odyssey
Many consider Super Mario Odyssey one of the greatest games starring Mario, and it’s hard to argue with that. The game revels in the vastness of the kingdoms that it sends Mario to, and the unique gameplay elements are something you can enjoy time and time again.
But many forget that the title is a co-op title. One player controls Mario, and the other can control his new friend Cappy! By working together, you’ll never miss an item, as Cappy can go and get it without Mario needing to send him!
Also, with another set of eyes, you might think of a way out of a situation or realize that a Moon is close!
#6 Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime
Well, doesn’t that sound like a romantic title to play?
Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime is a co-op-focused title where you and your partner will control a spaceship roaming the stars. The “beings of Anti-Love” are trying to destroy your vessel. You must not let that happen!
You’ll need to communicate with one another as you move through the ship to operate its various weapons and protections. Then, aim straight and true and destroy the enemy vessels!
The game is randomized with each level, so no two will be the same! So hop into your ship and set a course for adventure!
#5 Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Look, sometimes you need to let out your frustrations, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is an excellent way for couples to let out their frustrations on one another.
After all, one of the catchphrases of the series is “Settle It In Smash!” So why not take them up on their offer?
Plus, your partner may be incredibly competitive and want to test their skills against you! With a roster spanning multiple gaming generations and iconic characters, you both will find characters you love to play. Plus, you can do tag team matches against other players!
So what do you have to lose by playing?
#4 Kirby And The Forgotten Land
While Mario is the king of platformers, Kirby is no slouch himself. The pink puffball has been on numerous adventures over the decades, but Kirby And The Forgotten Land might be his grandest yet!
The title features Kirby and the residents of Dream Land getting sucked into a new dimension. When Kirby arrives, he finds that the Waddle Dees are being kidnapped! It’s up to him to save the day and learn more about the world he’s now in.
Or, more specifically, one of you will play Kirby, and the other will play Bandana Dee! Use your unique skills to defeat enemies and work through the beautifully-rendered world!
#3 Untitled Goose Game
Sometimes, it’s fun to be naughty. To screw with people and to watch how they react. In Untitled Goose Game, you and your partner can do that and have the time of your life doing it.
The game is simplicity itself. You play as a goose, or in this case, a pair of geese, and you’ll wander around a small town, causing havoc wherever you waddle. You’ll honk to get people’s attention, often with hilarious reactions, and steal things from citizens to get them to chase you. You know, engaging in some “fowl play.”
So go forth and be the best geese you can be!
#2 Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
You might feel it’s odd to have so many “competitive” games on this list, given that it’s supposed to be “for couples.” But sometimes the competition can make relationships stronger! Or, in the case of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the fun of racing around and battling your significant other in a fast-paced title outranks whatever stress you have.
If you choose to race one another, you’ll love the simplicity of controlling your kart rider and getting them to the finish line. The thrill of getting an item to help you get ahead of the competition never gets old.
Plus, new courses are being added! So you’ll have new tracks to enjoy.
#1 Stardew Valley
While there are many incredible games to enjoy with your partner, there’s something fun about building something together that takes a relationship to a new level.
Stardew Valley is revered as one of the best games ever, but most people only try the title solo. But there have been multiplayer/co-op additions so you can team up with a friend, or a significant other, to play the title that way.
Through teamwork, you’ll take on the challenge of building up a farm from scratch and turning it into a successful venture. Work on your communication skills and decide together what kind of farm you want to make.
