December 2022 was an interesting month for gaming. And we mean that honestly because there were some big reveals! Here are 28 of the best ones.
#28 Crime Boss Rockay City
Have you ever wanted to be a crime boss? Crime Boss Rockay City will give you that opportunity, and it’s up to you to make the most of it.
In the game, Rockay City loses its former kingpin. That means there’s a power vacuum going on, and you want to fill it. You’ll start by picking a crew to run and then doing jobs to gain fame, money, and power.
But be warned! You are but one player in this massive battle for power. You’ll need to ally yourself with various other elements within the city to ensure your rise and your rivals’ downfall.
It’s either reach the top of the mountain or die trying. Good luck!
#27 Peppa Pig: World Adventures
We’ll admit that the last game was for more of an ‘adult crowd.’ So if you’re looking for a game your kids can enjoy in the new year, get Peppa Pig: World Adventures. If they’re fans of Peppa, that is.
In this globetrotting adventure, Peppa and her family will travel the world! Exotic locations like New York, Paris, London, Australia, and more await them! As you journey to these places, you’ll meet new friends and get to go on unique quests set to the areas you’re in.
Fly through the air, dive into the depths, and build a house of your own making! All this and more await you.
#26 DC’s Justice League: Cosmic Chaos
Staying with the “kid-friendly” adventures, we now have DC’s Justice League: Cosmic Chaos to talk about.
The cutesy game puts you as Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman in a battle against the trickster from the 5th Dimension, Mr. Mxyzptlk. He’s bringing the chaos and forcing the Trinity to play his game!
Whether you play alone or co-op with up to two friends, you’ll battle across the DC Universe and fight some of the most classic enemies the comics have made! You can play each level as one of the Trinity and see how you use their abilities to overcome all that’s thrown at you!
#25 Monster Hunter Rise for PS4 & PS5
We can give you a timeline if you want to know how popular Monster Hunter Rise has gotten since its launch. The title was initially a Switch exclusive that sold like hotcakes. Then it was ported to the PC, where it sold a significant amount there. It was later announced for the Xbox line of systems, and now the PS4/PS5 are getting their copy.
Did we forget anyone? Is Stadia still around so it can get a copy? No? Then we’ll move on.
Everything you love about the Capcom franchise is here. Lots of monsters to kill, weapons and armor to craft, and an expansive DLC that continues to grow. So if you don’t have the game yet, you have no excuses once these versions arrive.
#24 Tuesday Morning
You might remember Tuesday Morning being announced back in 2021. That’s because it was, and it was done in the most random way possible. Fast forward to December 2022, and the big announcement was that a demo for the game had been launched so that fans could try it out.
The game focuses on a man named Sam. Sam has a dog that is lost in a dystopian city, and so he has to go save it. We’re not saying this is John Wick level of storytelling, but it’s in the ballpark.
You’ll use swords primarily to hack through enemies and get deeper into the city to save your dog. More might be unveiled in the future. So stay tuned.
#23 Vail VR
One of the biggest complaints about VR titles is that they’re “limited in scope” and don’t give themselves a chance to be enjoyed by multiple players at once. Vail VR aims to change that perception.
The title is a 5v5 shooter focusing on FPS gameplay and working with your teammates to overcome the enemy. You’ll need to use tactics and teamwork to win. Think about the environment and how you can use it to your advantage. For example, if a teammate is down or low on ammo, go over and help them!
The game was meticulously crafted to be a competitive experience. So go enjoy it!
#22 Supercross 6
Maybe you’re looking for a title that’ll get your adrenaline pumping as you race around a course and attempt to get victory over your rivals! If so, then Supercross 6 will be one to keep an eye out for.
“But what if I’ve never done a motocross game before?” The game accounts for that and gives you plenty of access to advice and tools to ensure your experience is fun. They even brought in Jeremy McGrath to help make you comfortable!
Once you’re ready to ride, head into some of the most challenging motocross events and do your best to come out on top! Will you be No.1 by the end?
#21 Amnesia: The Bunker
The bunkers and trenches of World War 1 were both good and bad for soldiers. In Amnesia: The Bunker, you’ll see why they were so bad.
You’ll play a soldier trapped in a bunker and desperate to get out. The problem? You have limited light and only one bullet remaining in your gun. With untold dangers all around you, you must work your way through the corridors, keep your light on, and don’t panic when something approaches.
There are many terrors within the halls of this bunker, and one is constantly on your tail. Evade it, and use the environment to your advantage so you can make it out alive.
#20 Pirate’s Dynasty
On the high seas, nothing is given to you. Therefore, you must take what you can to survive and thrive. Pirate’s Dynasty allows you to create your own pirate adventure worthy of legend, and you can do it with friends!
After being stranded on a deserted island, you can either go off on your own to see how well you can survive or band together with other survivors and take on the world together!
Build up your pirate kingdom one piece of wood at a time. Create a base, build ships, battle other pirates and get treasure! Your dynasty is what you make of it.
#19 Into The Dead: Our Darkest Days
Imagine a city dealing with a heat wave and an economic crisis. What could make things worse for them? Zombies. Zombies can make it worse for them.
Into The Dead: Our Darkest Days focuses on a city in Texas that a horde of zombies has overrun. Only a handful of survivors remain, and all they want is to get to safety. That’s where you come in.
As their de facto leader, you’ll help them wander through the city, gather supplies, and try to make it out of there so you can enter a fabled safe zone.
But with zombies everywhere, can you make it out alive?
#18 Holstin
There’s a small Polish town called Jeziorne-Kolonia, but it’s anything but typical. Something is happening within the town that is killing its citizens and driving them insane as it happens. Your friend went to that town and then went missing.
Desperate for answers, you head to the town to seek them out, but the terrors you face might prevent you from accomplishing your goal. You’ll work your way through the town and attempt to get answers from the locals and the town itself.
A deep and dark mystery awaits you, and you must solve the case quickly. Or else the town will claim your mind and body too!
#17 Convallaria
Convallaria is a multi-layered title that many will enjoy. At its core, it’s a PVP and PVE game where players will work in teams to travel across a fantasy/sci-fi world and defeat other teams and monsters.
But a deeper narrative woven within the world will compel you to keep going even when the matches stop. Locked away in this world are the memories of the character’s past. What secrets do these memories hold? Why were they locked away for so long? You’ll load up and find out.
But if you want action, the game has plenty of that. Massive boss fights and struggles against rival teams will keep you occupied.
#16 After Us
The world as we know it is gone. Humanity has wrecked the planet, and its precious creatures are gone. In an attempt to save them, Gaia, the spirit of life, was able to save their souls. However, they are trapped in the ruined world, and she must protect them
Using Gaia’s powers, you’ll traverse an abstract-style version of our world and see the dangers that hurting the environment can have on it. Gaia will need to fight off oil monsters and other threats to reach the spirits of the lost so she can revive them.
What will the world tell you as you learn about its fate? Jump in and find out.
#15 Lost Soul Aside
In Lost Soul Aside, a massive war ended a decade ago, but that was only the start of their troubles. Once the war ended, monsters appeared and have run roughshod ever since. You play Kazer, a human who somehow was fused with one of these monsters known as the Arena.
Their only chance is to search for crystals that may have the power to save them. Their only goal is to save themselves, but that might change as they travel the world.
A large open world awaits you, and fun combat systems will help you feel right at home as you battle monsters across the land.
#14 Remnant 2
As if the previous game in the series wasn’t challenging and dramatic enough, Remnant 2 will force players to face the end of the world and the end of reality.
You’ll play as one of the last members of humanity and attempt to defeat monsters of both nature and gods through them. All so you can stop a plot to erase reality forever. You have the choice to play the game alone or in co-op. Either way, you’ll travel from world to world to get better weapons, gain allies, and stop the madness that’s forming.
Will you be able to save reality?
#13 Risk of Rain Returns
If you were a fan of the original game and its sequel, you’ll want to get Risk of Rain Returns when it arrives later this year.
The game takes the original title and revamps it in almost every way possible.
For example, there are new characters to play as, new weapons to enjoy and combinations to make, new secrets to uncover, and more!
Plus, if you liked the multiplayer aspects of the series, the new remaster overhauls it to give you the most profound experience possible.
You can tell the team wanted to make the game the definitive experience for you. So jump in and see where it takes you!
#12 Banishers: Ghost of New Eden
Banishers: Ghost of New Eden was one of many new titles revealed last year that got people talking due to what they saw.
The game takes place in a world where ghosts/spirits exist, and it’s up to Banishers to make them depart the realm. Antea and Red are Banishers who happen to be lovers. When a mission goes wrong, Antea is lost, and her spirit is all that remains in the world.
Determined to get her back at all costs, Red must travel across New Eden and search for a way to bring her back. You’ll solve mysteries, fight other spirits alone and with Antea’s new spirit powers, and seek an answer to your plight.
Can you bring her back to life? What price are you willing to pay for that?
#11 Judas
What will you do to try and escape the destruction that you caused? In Judas, you play as a person on board a ship slowly falling apart. You’re the one who broke it, and now you must decide whether to let everything go or try to fix it.
But that’s where the twist comes in. The only people you can get help from are those you’ve hurt. So will you be able to convince your enemies to help you save the ship? Or will you attempt to escape with your life, and only that?
An extraordinary narrative FPS will be heading your way when the title arrives.
#10 Returnal for PC
It’s always nice to see a console exclusive going multiplatform so that more gamers can enjoy it. Returnal is a title many have wanted for PC, given all the hype after its launch.
The game mixes a massive narrative with roguelike gameplay to deliver a unique experience. You play Selene, who has crash landed on a strange world that resets itself every time she dies. Except, she doesn’t die. She goes back to when she landed on the planet.
Plus, the “reset” isn’t perfect. The world changes, as do the weapons you can use. So venture through the world and learn the truth! Or else be stuck in the loop forever!
#9 Transformers: Reactivate
There have been many games set within the Transformers universe, including ones that happened solely on Cybertron! But with Transformers: Reactivate, we’re getting a few twists on the story and gameplay.
The reveal trailer shows that Earth has fallen by an unknown threat. Humanity is trying to fight back, but it needs help. It needs the Autobots. The trailer implies that humanity will have to search for them and repair them so that they can be reactivated.
The title claims to be a 1-4 player online title, so you might get to work with friends to try and save the planet and rebuild the Autobots together. Only time will tell.
#8 Crash Team Rumble
Here’s a title that no one saw coming. It’s up to you to determine whether it was worth the announcement or not.
Crash Team Rumble puts Crash Bandicoot, his allies, and foes in a 4v4 battle title that’ll test your abilities in many ways. For example, the goal isn’t to “capture a flag” or to “kill off the enemy team.” Instead, your goal is the Wumpa Fruit.
You need to get more than your opponents and ensure they don’t mess with your supply! So choose your team wisely and put them to the test to see if you all can come out on top!
#7 Company of Heroes 3
There are a few names in the gaming world that make you feel like they are the pinnacle of their genre. However, for the RTS genre, one name stands out amongst many others, and it’s finally getting its third title next month via Company of Heroes 3.
That’s right! The beloved World War II RTS title is about to make a big return, bringing everything you love about the series so far to life. That includes the dynamic gameplay and strategy elements that helped make it a landmark series.
Whether you battle in the main campaign, the Skirmish mode, or battle against other players, you’ll have plenty to do and lots to command!
#6 Hellboy Web of Wyrd
There have been many comic book adaptations in the video game space. We had one come out in December, as a matter of fact, and more are set to arrive this year, as we’ve already teased. However, one that many didn’t see coming is Hellboy Web of Wyrd.
The game will put you in the role of Hellboy as he investigates a mysterious location full of monsters, monsters that deserve a punch to the face and a bullet to the head.
Players will enjoy this beloved take on the character mixed with a unique visual style and roguelike gameplay. Plus, the character’s creator is helping with the game’s plot!
#5 Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores
If you’ve been enjoying the latest adventures of Aloy, you’re in luck because the expansion for her sequel title will be arriving in April.
Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores takes Aloy to Hollywood! Yep, she’s going to be a movie star! Well, actually, she’s not, but you get the joke.
We don’t know much about the content outside of the location. But we know the game’s expansion will feature many iconic locations and new monsters. But any chance to revisit this world will be welcome for some of you.
So put on your shades and get ready to ride into Hollywood in style!
#4 Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon
There were many surprises at The Game Awards that fans didn’t see coming. But arguably, one of the biggest was Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon.
The game is being developed by PlatinumGames, but it’s headed up by a young team of developers who seek to tell a different kind of story in the universe of the beloved Umbra Witch.
In the game, you play Cereza in her youth. Long before she gets the abilities to save the world. When her mother goes missing, she’ll investigate a mystical forest alongside a lost demon named Cheshire. Her journey to become a legend is about to begin, and it’ll be like nothing you’ve played previously in the series.
#3 Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
If you were to pick a game developer who has been firing on all cylinders without a single hiccup for the past decade, the one you’d likely say did that would be From Software.
They are the company that basically created a new sub-genre for gaming and then took it to new heights with each game it made. That’s why it was so shocking that they unveiled Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon at The Game Awards.
The mech series hasn’t been seen for some time. But with From Software being at the level they are, the game will no doubt be quality and a fun experience for all who play it.
#2 Death Stranding 2
As if Hideo Kojima didn’t screw with people enough with his last title, Death Stranding 2 has been confirmed, and it’s going to get even weirder than before.
We don’t know too much from the reveal trailer. This isn’t that surprising considering Kojima’s style and how he likes to make people wonder what they watched.
We know that the game will pick up where the previous title left off, and Sam Bridges will be in the game once again.
But will the game be less of a “walking simulator” than the last one? Will Kojima cut loose and make a title that everyone loves? We’ll have to wait and see.
#1 Hades 2
Why is Hades 2 at the top of this list? Well, the first game was pretty awesome, so that’s a great starting point, wouldn’t you say?
The first game was a fun mix of roguelike elements and Greek mythology, and the sequel is amping things up to the next level. You’ll play Melinoë in the sequel, who happens to be the daughter of Hades. However, she isn’t trying to escape the underworld like her brother. Instead, she’s trying to save her father and the other gods from the wrath of the Titan Chronos!
By her side will be the witch known as Hectate. Indicating that there are going to be new gameplay twists when the title arrives.
