Minecraft
looking a bit dull to you? Those default textures should be one of the first things gamers toss out for an alternative. Not only is it easy to create your own unique texture pack, but there are countless texture packs available for download online. These various texture packs not only will alter how the game will look and may meet your particular tastes. From simple minimalist textures to bright cartoony designs, these are the top ten best Minecraft texture packs of 2016.

Equanimity

Equanimity has been one of the more popular texture packs available for Minecraft ever since it first released on November 17, 2013. Gaining over a million total downloads, Equanimity is described as a custom default texture which aims to inspire other potential designers to create their own textures for the game.

According to the creator, these textures took him under a month to complete though to be more specific, on average, creator Filmjolk spent less than five minutes to design each texture. Even though this particular texture pack doesn’t travel too far off from the beaten path that Mojang established with their default textures, it does give a nice enough pop to make everything stand out a just a bit more.

R3D.CRAFT

Are you tired of playing Minecraft with the low-resolution textures, but still want the same feel of the default design? You’ll definitely want to check out R3D.CRAFT. This is a high-resolution texture pack from UniblueMedia that first released online in July of 2013. Since then the texture pack has received over 276,000 downloads that grant players a more detailed and realistic texture quality.

In the project description, the creator describes R3D.CRAFT as a more enhanced default texture pack with smoother color transitions, shadows, lighting effects, additional missing details and so much more. Instead of the blocky pixilated designs of each texture, UniblueMedia added more shapes and depth transforming any Minecraft world into a work of art.

Scribblenauts

The name alone should give a nice heads up on what to expect from this texture pack. Scribblenauts was first released in March of 2014 by artists SirMelty and Dragonoid12. Inspired by the 2D puzzle game Scribblenauts for the Nintendo DS, gamers are given a quirky and cartoonish style texture which will certainly shed some new light onto the Minecraft gameplay. Everything from blocks, clouds, to even the mobs have been changed into the style of the Scribblenauts game which should leave players with a fresh new perspective as they collect resources and explores their randomly generated world.

Xray Ultimate

Xray Ultimate is a texture pack that is very simplistic. What this texture pack brings to the table is a better means of locating ores and minerals. This could solve the problem for some gamers who are finding it difficult to track down the different resources buried underground as creator, Filmjolk, highlighted all the ores and mineral blocks along with giving an extra little night vision effect for those who are using the Optifine mod. As of right now, this texture pack is 1.8+ compatible.

Dramatic Skys

Player’s horizons and skies will be met with a new sun, moon, day sky, night sky, clouds, animated sunrise, sunset, and a custom star field. Additionally, this particular texture pack is light enough that, according to the creator, any PC rig should be able to run it with no problem.

Soartex is a 64px texture pack that was created by Soar49. The basis of this texture pack was to create something that offered fans a more contemporary art style to Minecraft where the textures are not considered photo-realistic but at the same time, not cartoony. This texture pack has also sparked off two official continuations to the Soartex project.

The first project is known as Fanver which is a community continuation of Soartex where fans are free to contribute textures through the official forum. These images are then considered by selected graphic designers who will offer recommendations though if the images are satisfactory, the textures are included in the following updates.

Invictus is the other texture pack continuation that is being updated and maintained by creators Shoeboxam and Goldbattle. This particular pack is made to alter the pattern and aliasing for bigger builds, mipmapping optimization, and color depth within the foliage.
