Racing games are numerous, and serve all sorts of purposes if you think about it. But one thing that can’t be ignored is that some of the best ones don’t just give you cars, but lets you customize them, and what you can do with them. We’ll show you some examples.
#14 Car Mechanic Simulator 2021
Let’s start off small, shall we? Because sometimes to play with the best cars, you actually need to know how to use them to their fullest. Which means you need to get inside of them and know how every part works.
Car Mechanic Simulator 2021 is an example of a game that’ll let you do that. You’ll get to be a part of a startup garage and work on 72 different cars in order to learn how to make them work, and make them run as smoothly as possible.
And this isn’t a “paint by numbers” thing, you’ll need to really learn how to make it all work. So don’t mess up!
#13 iRacing
Believe it or not, iRacing is a simulation game that is so detailed and in-depth, that even actual race car drivers participate in it to fine-tune their skills. So if they like it, you will doubt like it.
Not the least of which is because the game will feature you all driving in intense circuits and races designed by the dev team, but also, by you. Yes, part of the customization in this game is you getting to make your own race tracks, or even your own league circuit, and then challenging others on it.
Add that to a large supply of racecars from many facets of racing life like NASCAR and the Grand Prix circuit, and you’ll have a lot to do in the game.
#12 Need For Speed Underground Series
The line of Need For Speed Underground games are meant for those who want to dive into the urban side of racing. But that alone leaves the game open to a LOT of customization choices.
For example, in the original Need For Speed Underground, you’ll have over 20 cars to not just get, but then outfit the way you want to. Because not unlike certain Street Outlaws, you’ll want to customize your ride with certain after market parts in order to boost performance on race day.
There are plenty of events for you to do too in order to get the money needed to buy the parts as well. In short, you’ll have a lot of fun making your ride the fastest on the street.
#11 Automation
One could argue that Automation is the best car customization game out there right now. Why is that? Because this is a tycoon-style game where you’ll literally be making cars of your own designs in order to try and start a car company of high-acclaim.
You can build your cars from the ground up to be the fastest out there, the coolest out there, the most efficient to drive, and so on. Once you launch your business, you’ll need to keep making new rides to make your business sales go up and up and up!
What kind of cars will you build? Jump into Automation and see where you car mind takes you!
#10 Need For Speed: Payback
The Need For Speed games have often push racing titles to their limits, and Need For Speed: Payback was one that definitely tried to break the mold.
Because in this title, you play as a crew that was once divided, but now must unite once more in order to take down an evil cartel known as The House. They basically run Fortune Valley top to bottom, and as a result, you must have the best possible cars to take down both their world and the people that protect it.
You’ll be going up against the best, so make sure your car is outfitted to go beyond all of them. Witness intense fights with cops as well as brilliantly rendered set pieces.
All so you can take down The House.
#9 Assetto Corsa Competizione
Assetto Corsa Competizione is one of many video games out there that endeavor to give you one of the more realistic driving experiences in all the world of video games.
And here is no different, as Assetto Corsa Competizione tries to give you an accurate depiction of the GT3 Championships and helps you make your cars ready for the challenges ahead.
You won’t just want your car to go faster, you’ll want it to be aerodynamic to slice through the air and have tires that can grip perfectly to the surface.
Do these things? And you might just make it out on top.
#8 Project Cars 3
While some car games try and give you a focused experience, ones like Project Cars 3 try and give you ALL the car experiences possible. By that, we mean that within Project Cars 3 you’ll find over 200 cars to drive. From the ones that tear up the street, to the elite rides that only the best can afford, you’ll have access to them here.
Then, you can put them to the test on over 120 race tracks that are positioned all over the world.
You’ll have the ability to drive day or night, in all kinds of seasons and weather and in all kinds of modes. What’s not to love?
#7 Forza Horizon 5
Forza Horizon 5 is one two different “branches” of the Forza gaming name. The point of the Horizon brand is to not just give you a lot of cars to drive, but to truly “customize” how and where you drive them.
In this case, you’ll be given a depiction of Mexico, and thus be able to take your driving on the road or off of it in order to do whatever you want. You can even have your friends drop in or drop out of the gameplay in order to give you an even more unique experience. It’s all up to you here.
#6 Need For Speed: Heat
Need For Speed: Heat can very much be defined by the time of day you’re in within the game. In the day, you’ll be part of sanctioned races as part of a major competition. The goal there is to win and earn money so you can upgrade your car.
But then, at night, that’s when the REAL races begin, and you’ll want to win to earn respect and get access to new races, better parts, and more.
But the reason “Heat” is in the title is that at night…the cops break all the rules to try and take you down. So you’ll need to be on your game when they come, else you’ll be taken out.
#5 The Crew 2
We’ve shown you a lot of different kinds of customization in these racing games, but The Crew 2 takes it to a different level entirely. Mainly because they give you an entire “motornation” to go and play with in the best of ways. In this case, you’ll be able to go and race across the country on land, in the water, or in the air. You can switch between vehicles on a dime, have your friends play with you or against you, and so on.
And then when you want to get serious, you can join a motorsport family and race for championships. It’s all up to you, and the world is yours to race in.
#4 GTA V
Yes, we know, GTA V isn’t your typical racing game, not compared to the ones we’ve already talked about. But there are races in it (especially in GTA Online) and you are able to customize your rides in here…so…it works?
Regardless, one of the things that can’t be ignored about GTA V is that they want you to drive around the city in style, and that means making the money to get your car pimped out so you look like the boss you know you feel like.
So jump in and cause some havoc and get some loot so you can make the ride you’ve always dreamed up.
#3 F1 Series
The F1 Series video games are honestly one of the more basic to understand. Because in them, you’ll be participating virtually in the actual races that go on with the F1 circuit. Giving you a truly epic fan experience as you go and live your dreams of being an F1 racer.
But, just like an F1 racer, you’ll need to make sure that you, your car, and your team are running at peak precision in order to come out on top.
After every race you’ll customize your car where you can in order to make it run faster and smoother. Only through hard work and fine tuning can your team be on top.
#2 Gran Turismo Series
If we’re going to talk about racing games with customization ability, you have to talk about the Gran Turismo Series for sure.
Yes, you can just note that you can pick and choose a lot of cars from a very large selection, but that’s only half the battle. Because in titles like Gran Turismo 7, you’ll be able to fine tune those cars to not just look the way you want, but perform the way you want.
Not unlike true racers, you’ll fiddle with the mechanics of your car to get it to perform like a true racing champ. So get into the garage and make your cars look and feel their best.
#1 Forza Motorsport 7
Just how massive a car library can you have in a title? Forza Motorsport 7 definitely wanted to test that out when it arrived a few years back. Because in this game, you’ll have 700+ cars for you to drive in! That’s…a lot.
That means you’ll find a ride that is perfect for you, or something to strive for with your racing. Especially since you can drive these incredible beasts down 200+ tracks set all over the world.
The true benefit here is the community, where you’ll interact with other virtual racers to see what you can do with your rides, and how you can become the best racer around.
