Fallout 4 Guide: How To Build The Signal Interceptor

November 16, 2015 by Holly Green

This can be a bit complicated, so let us guide you through the major steps in piecing this together.

It is a long, time consuming journey from the Commonwealth to the Institute, and one major thing stands in your way: finding a means to get in. At a certain point in your journey through the main quest of Fallout 4, you will need to put together an advanced piece of tech that will transport your molecules to another location. This item is called the Signal Interceptor, and it consists of several parts.

First find a wide open space at one of your settlements. You will need lots of room, as the components for the Signal Interceptor are large and must be wired to the same power grid (and copper wiring, as you already know, only goes so far). I chose an empty foundation at Sanctuary Hills. The first item you will build is the Stabilized Reflector Platform, which you can see below. When you open the Workshop in your settlement, there will now be a “Special” section.

This is where you will find the schematics for all the necessary pieces of the Signal Interceptor. The Stabilized Reflector Platform requires power, but we’ll get to that in a minute. For now, plant it in the upper corner of your wide open space. It will require 10 Aluminum, 2 Circuitry, and 5 Steel.

Once the platform is built, return to Tinker Tom at the Railroad headquarters. He will inform you that three additional pieces are needed, a Military Grade Circuit Board, a Biometric Scanner, and a Sensor Module. The Biometric Scanner and Military Grade Circuit Board can be found at any hospital. The mission directs you to Milton General Hospital, where you can pilfer the necessary items off a Nurse Handy.

The Sensor Module is at Hubris Comics, upstairs behind an Expert lock, in a military duffle bag.

Return to your build site and create the other components necessary for the Signal Interceptor. They are the Beam Emitter, which should be placed over the Stabilized Reflector Platform,  the Control Console, which will act as the hub for all the power needed to run the Signal Interceptor, and the Relay Dish.

The Beam Emitter will require 2 Rubber, 10 Steel, 5 Copper, 1 Military Grade Circuitry Board, and 3 Circuitry. The Control Console will need 2 Rubber, 3 Copper, 5 Steel, and 1 Biometric Scanner. The Relay Dish will require 3 Copper, 3 Steel, 6 Cloth, 3 Gold. They also need 20, 2, and 5 Power, respectively. For that you will need either 6 Medium Generators, or 5 Medium and 1 Small. A Medium Generator needs 3 Screws, 3 Gears, 7 Steel, 3 Rubber, 3 Copper, and 3 Ceramic.

You will also need plenty of Copper so you have the necessary wiring to hook them all up. All the pieces need to be wired back to the Control Console. For help finding the items needed to build the Signal Interceptor, please visit our Settlements guide.

Here is a picture of what my set up looked like once all the components were in place.

Once all the pieces are fully powered, Tinker Tom and Desdemona will show up on-site. Tom will begin to Tinker with the Control Console and finalize the process. As you stand on the platform, that is, the Stabilized Reflector Platform that is now under the Beam Emitter, Desdemona will approach you with some final requests and you will be transported to The Institute.
