NBA 2K16: Tips, Tricks, & MyCareer Guide

October 6, 2015 by Stephen Daly

We look at character creation and attributes and badges.

Redditor jyea15 has put together an impressively extensive guide for dominating as a center player in NBA2K16.

The guide notes that center has traditionally been the best position to dominate and this isn't changed in the new game, where players rated in even the 60s can average 50/20 on Hall of Fame. The guide goes through the perks and pitfalls of playing as a center before going on to discuss what you need to do to make the most out of that position.

Two of the areas he looks at Character Creation and Attributes and Badges.

For the former, he starts out with Inside Scoring Style. This is the only way to achieve 90+ for every post and inside scoring attribute. All of the other options lead to a maximum of 75, if you're playing as a center Inside Scoring makes most sense to focus on anyway.

The Max Height in the game is 7'3", with some attributes being capped due to height increases. With the exception of lay up and vertical, these stats don't matter for our play style. The driving lay up is capped at 70 (with a max cap of 75). Height is offers a significant advantage which more than compensates for the reduced vertical. Centers shouldn't be shorter than 6'10" unless you're looking for a challenge.

NBA 2K16's max weight is 340 lbs., heavier characters may be slower but speed doesn't matter too much given our build's playstyle. Increased weight allows you to more easily resist people back you down in the post and also makes it easier for you to back other players down in the post.

Max out your wingspan to make blocking and steals easier, there are no obvious downsides to doing so.

With Character Creation sorted, we now move to Attributes and Badges.

Your build order is important here, you need to max Inside Scorer and Athlete first, with Inside Scorer being about three above Athlete. In other words, 10 Inside Scorer should be accompanied by 6-8 Athlete. There's no need to put points into anything else until these are both maximised, as blocking and rebounding are quite simple and focusing on Inside Scorer and Athlete will make you unstoppable down low.

Once this is done focus on maxing Jump Shooter next to stop bricking free throws. Both Rebounder and Defender are important, and it's up to you which you focus on next – you may prefer to improve both at the same time.

Badges are relatively cheap to upgrade and 'Brick Wall' and 'Posterizer' in particular are overpowered, so you should focus on these before Attributes.

There's a lot more information in the guide, with tips on settings, offensive and defensive tactics, and more. You can also get a good idea of how to 'cheese' the center in the video below.
