Destiny: The Taken King Guide – The Fastest Way to Earn Legendary Marks

September 21, 2015 by Ian Miles Cheong

What are Legendary Marks and how do you get them? This guide for Destiny: The Taken King provides a detailed explanation of Legendary Marks.

If you picked up Destiny's latest expansion, The Taken King, you might have noticed a new type of currency called Legendary Marks.

Legendary Marks explained

Gone are the old Vanguard Marks and Crucible Marks, which have since been retired and replaced with the new currency.

Legendary Marks now serve as the game's primary currency, which you'll need to purchase new Legendary Gear from vendors. You'll also need them to repurchase Year One weapons and armor that have been upgraded with 2.0 stats.

Additionally, most Exotic gear requires Legendary Marks to be infused. The act of infusion allows you to upgrade an existing weapon with another weapon, consuming it in the process. Doing so will upgrade the attack rating of the weapon, making it much more powerful. It also works on armor.

Legendary Marks are capped at 200 in your account-wide wallet. You are not limited to earning more than 200 a week if you spend what you have. Because there are multiple ways of acquiring Legendary Marks, it will take a lot of work to earn enough to afford these new items.

How do you earn Legendary Marks?

The first thing you'll want to do is to get your Guardian to level 40. You cannot earn Legendary Marks until you do. Once you've reached the level, you can acquire them through the following means:

Daily Story Mission

Participate and complete the Daily Story mission to earn 15 Legendary Marks.

Vanguard Heroic Strikes

Vanguard Heroic Strikes offer 10 Legendary Marks and a Legendary Engram for a successful completion. These strikes are level 41 with a recommended light level of 260. You can do this up to three times a week.

Daily Crucible Playlist

Participating in one match in the daily Crucible match type will reward you with 15 Legendary Marks.

Completing Quests

Certain quests in The Taken King, particularly story quests that take place after the main story will reward you with Legendary Marks.

Dismantle Legendary gear

If you dismantle Year Two Legendary gear, you will earn some Legendary marks for your trouble. You can earn as much as five per salvage.

As it stands, there's no way to grind out Legendary Marks so don't worry about marathoning the game. Also keep in mind that Dailies and Weeklies are now account-wide, so you won't be able to farm them by playing each of your three characters.
