PlayStation 5 is a step up from the four and keeps many of the previous gens’ convenient features. Among these features is the ability to play games using a mouse and keyboard instead of a traditional controller. For some games, this makes gameplay much more fluid, but if you want to use a different type of controls, then you do need to know how to hook everything up.

How to set up a mouse and keyboard on PlayStation 5

There is no trick to hooking up your mouse and keyboard to the PlayStation 5. Simply plug in the USB wire to the USB ports on your console, and it will automatically recognize that you’re using a different control scheme. Keep in mind that not every game is meant to work with a mouse and keyboard, so don’t be shocked when the console doesn’t respond to your inputs.

What Games Will a Mouse and Keyboard Work With on PlayStation 5?

There are quite a few games that will work with a mouse and keyboard. Unsurprisingly these are usually games that were made for PC in the first place. Here is a list of popular games that make use of alternative controller methods.

  • Final Fantasy 14
  • Overwatch
  • DayZ
  • The Sims 4
  • Ark: Survival Evolved

Generally, if it was made to work on or work best on PC, your chances are good that you can use a mouse and keyboard with it. Some games may only allow you to use a keyboard, or you may even be able to utilize the keyboard along with your regular controller for a better gameplay experience.

Best Mouse and Keyboard Options for PlayStation 5

The cool thing about the PlayStation 5 is that any mouse and keyboard will work with the console. It’s not just wired keyboards and mice, either. The PlayStation 5 will even recognize wireless ones. If you are looking for a superior gaming experience, though, then you want to check out the following recommendations for gaming mice.

  • Steelseries Aerox 5 Wireless
  • Logitech G903
  • Razer Deathadder

These three mice come from well-known companies and range between $30 for the cheapest Razer Deathadder to $150. Whether you need a mouse for series gameplay or are just looking for something to make playing The Sims easier, the mice above will have your back. If you need a keyboard as well, then check out these options below.

  • Razer Blackwidow
  • HyperX Alloy Elite
  • Vulcan TKL Pro

While gaming keyboards are on the pricier side, they last for years and can make playing some games much more enjoyable. One thing to consider is whether you want a mechanical keyboard or not and if you want to use a wired or wireless option. If you don’t want to spend a ton of money, you can always pick up cheaper brands that are not made for gaming. In general, these will probably run you hundred dollars less, and some decent non-gaming keyboards can be picked up for around $30.
