Sifu: New Difficulty Options Explained | Patch 1.08 Additions

May 6, 2022 by Matt Villei

Sifu’s latest update gave players more choice in how much of a challenge they want.

Sifu recently received its first content update in the form of Patch 1.08. Among the technical fixes and updates made to things like outfits and the training mode, the most notable change was the addition of difficulty settings. Sifu is known for being pretty unforgiving, so much so that the call for an easier difficulty has been ringing out since the game’s release. Now, this mode exists, but Sloclap went one step further and added another, even more, difficult option as well! Now with the game having three difficulty options instead of one, players making a return to the game or picking it up for the first time will want to know what each setting is all about. This guide will fully explain these new difficulty options and what each of them means in Sifu.

New Sifu Difficulty Options Explained

When you start a new game of Sifu, you will now be treated with a “Difficulty Selection” screen, from which you will be able to select between three separate difficulties. The middle option, “Disciple” is the original difficulty for Sifu, so players that want to dive back into the experience that was present before Update 1.08 can still be able to.

The easier difficult, known as “Student,” is still said to be challenging in its description, but this is a version of the game that players who hit a wall that they just couldn’t get past but still wanted to experience the high-quality game can use to once again make some progress. Players that choose this difficulty will have increased Health and Structure while the Death Counter can only ever go up to 1, meaning players will age slower upon death. Enemies will also be much less aggressive had will stick to basic combos so the player will be able to attack more often and have to focus a defense a little less. There will also be better rewards found at shrines.

For everyone who needs an easier time with the game, there are those who want (and maybe even need) a greater challenge. This is where the new “Master” difficulty comes in. The complete inverse to Student, the player will have lower Health and Structure while the enemies have theirs increased. Enemies will also be more responsive with their defense and will attack with highly intricate combos. Bosses will also have completely new attack patterns for you to overcome. This mode is for, as the name suggests, people who have truly mastered Sifu.

Don’t feel too worried about which difficulty you decide to start on, as you can easily change it at any time. If you wish to go down in difficulty, you will need to return to your headquarter of Wuguan and then press the pause button and navigate over the Options tab. Go into “Gameplay” and the first option will be the Difficulty option. You can lower your difficulty at any point when you are in Wuguan but will need to start a completely new game if you want to raise the difficulty.
