Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl: How to Catch Darkrai

March 16, 2022 by Peter Hunt Szpytek

Hail the dream eater!

Many people have critiqued the Pokemon series for the sheer number of legendary Pokemon that each game seems to introduce. While there have always been rare Pokemon for players to seek out, it wasn’t really until Pokemon Diamond and Pearl that Game Freak truly started ramping up the legendries introduced. It makes sense, then, why the remakes, Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, would also be packed with the rare monsters.

The 1.3.0 update for BDSP introduced Arceus as a catchable Pokemon and starting in April, Darkrai will also be up for grabs. The process for snagging Arceus requires the player to have completed the main story in Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but luckily those wanting Darkrai won’t need to have played the entirety of the most recent Pokemon title.

Weirdly enough, catching Darkrai in Legends Arceus requires the player to have beaten BDSP, but to get the legendary in the classic Nintendo DS remakes, no additional purchases or gameplay are required.

How to Get Darkrai

Getting Darkrai in BDSP is pretty straightforward and falls in line with a lot of the other legendary Pokemon requirements. Right off the bat, the player will need to have beaten the Elite 4, entered the Hall of Fame, and acquired the National Pokedex.

Special to Darkrai, in addition to completing the above requirements, the player will need to have also completed the Cresselia event that becomes available once the player has gotten the National Pokedex.

Once all that’s completed, wait until April 1 when a new Mystery Gift will become available. The gift is a Member Card that allows the player to travel to Newmoon Island by entering the locked inn in Canalave City. Inside, go to sleep and the player will wake up in Newmoon Island and have the opportunity to catch Darkrai. Make sure to bring plenty of supplies as the fight is a tough one.
