Some of the most useful features in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl are partially hidden. You’ll have to talk to everyone to find some of the most useful NPCs in the game — characters that boost your Pokemon, help you re-learn moves your Pokemon have forgotten, and much more. Most of these NPCs are designed specifically for the most dedicated players, so if you’re planning on really getting into the deepest depths of Pokemon meta-gaming, these NPCs are invaluable resources.
Some of the most important NPCs are the Move Reminder, the IV Judge, and the Hyper Trainer. All of these characters can be found in other games, and if you’re a longtime fan, you’ll be looking out for their locations. The IV Judge helps you see the hidden potential of your Pokemon, and the Hyper Trainer is where you’ll be able to deposit handy bottlecaps to improve your Pokemon’s IVs. Save those bottlecaps for a very rainy day. Especially if you find a Gold Bottlecap. Learn all about the Hyper Trainer and all the rest below.

Useful NPCs | Character Functions & Features
Around the Sinnoh Region, there are NPCs with useful functions. Below, we’ll share locations for these NPCs and what they can do for you. Many of them are returning characters you’ll find in almost every mainline Pokemon game. Some have exclusive functions, while others are unique to this game.
- Friendship Checker: Hearthome City – Find the Friendship Checker at the Pokemon Fan Club. She will tell you how much friendship you’ve built up with your Pokemon. If you reach maximum friendship with a Pokemon, you’ll earn the Best Friends Ribbon.
- IV Judge: Battle Tower – Found in the Pokemon Center in Battle Tower. The IV Judge unlocks the ability to check your Pokemon’s IVs — Individual Values. These are a previously-hidden stat that is very important for competitive play.
- After talking to the IV Judge, you can check your Pokemon IVs. Select the Pokemon you want from the box, then press [Start] to see your Pokemon’s IVs.
- Loto-ID: Jubilife City – At the TV Station, you can talk to the Loto-ID NPC for a chance at big prizes. Every day, this NPC will roll numbers. If any of the numbers match your Pokemon-ID, you’ll win a prize. Depending on how many numbers match up, you’ll get better prizes. This is a daily activity.
- 1 Matching Number: Ultraball
- 2 Matching Number: PP Up
- 3 Matching Number: Lucky Egg
- 4 Matching Number: Max Revive
- 5 Matching Number: Master Ball
- Massager: Veilstone City – In the house near the gym, you can find a masseur that will give your Pokemon a massage once per day to increase friendship. This is a free service and resets daily.
- Morimoto: Valor Lakefront – After completing the story and getting the National Pokedex, return to the Hotel Grand Lake and talk to Morimoto in the jacuzzi. You can fight him daily — he has a powerful lineup of Pokemon, so be prepared. His Pokemon are Lvl 63-65.
- Move Deleter: Canalave City – This NPC will delete unwanted moves from your Pokemon. Certain moves when transferred from other games can’t be used. If your Pokemon is stuck with one of these moves, you can use the Move Deleter to get rid of it.
- Move Reminder: Pastoria City – Found in one of the houses. The Move Reminder gives you the chance to re-learn any moves a Pokemon has forgotten or skipped. Any move it can learn as it levels up can be re-learned here.
- To use the Move Reminder, you need to trade rare Heart Scales. After trading 10 Heart Scales, you’ll be able to use the Move Reminder service for free.
Heart Scales are rare and can be found in the Grand Underground and traded with the hikers for spheres.
- Mr. Backlot: Pokemon Mansion – After acquiring the National Pokedex, return to the Pokemon Mansion in the Trophy Garden. There’s a gardener that will tell you about rare Pokemon he sees every day. The new Pokemon swaps daily, with the daily Pokemon and the previous day’s Pokemon available to capture.
- These are rare Pokemon that normally can’t be found in the Trophy Garden.
- Mr. Hyper: Battle Park – Mr. Hyper is the Hyper Trainer. Trade him a Bottlecap and he’ll increase one of your IVs to maximum. Trade a Gold Bottlecap to increase all six IVs.
- Name Rater: Eterna City – In the Condominiums, the Name Rater will change the nicknames of your Pokemon.
- Random Trainer Battle: Jubilife City – In the TV Station, you’ll find a random trainer that wants to fight. A new one will appear each day.
