Nemesis [Resident Evil 3]
Nemesis got an upgrade in the Resident Evil 3 Remake. Unlike the previous remake of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 (2020) is almost an entirely new game — it barely shares any connective tissue with the PS1 original, except in its basic story beats. So Nemesis is even worse this time around. He doesn’t just follow you around with a Rocket Launcher, now he has an arrow of ridiculously powerful abilities.
Nemesis only hunts you briefly in an open-environment. Most of the time, he’s relegated to cutscenes — but when he’s hunting you, it’s the worst. Nemesis can grab you from afar with his long tentacle, pulling you in for a punch attack. He can sprint faster than any other enemy, and if you duck inside a building to escape, he can grapple onto rooftops and drop down right in front of you. Oh, and he can infect zombies with a strange parasite upgrade, making them invulnerable and giving them a powerful new ranged attack. Capcom really went out of their way to make Nemesis a problem.
Tarsus, The First Martyr [Mortal Shell]
Mortal Shell is an impressive little Dark Souls indie adventure. Like those games, there’s one boss that just pisses everyone off. In Mortal Shell, that boss is Tarsus — the undead knight waiting at the bottom of the frozen wastes. When the game was first released, this boss could be a game-breaking roadblock due to a simple oversight.
On the path to Tarsus, there’s a mini-boss with its own arena. Defeating this mini-boss removes the ramp leading to the dungeon exit — so you can only leave the area when you defeat Tarsus. And Tarsus is such a difficult boss, if you follow this path early in the game before getting upgrades, you’re basically trapping yourself forever in an unbeatable situation.
