A Gold Monkey That Poops Money [Spelunky 2]
My favorite Easter egg in 2020 is hands-down from Spelunky 2. This insanely hard rogue-like is absolutely packed with dirty secrets like secret levels and hidden final bosses, but this simple gold monkey is the greatest thing for fans to find.
To summon the Gold Monkey pet, all you need is the gold idol head — the gold idol is a valuable treasure hidden in some early levels. Grabbing it out of the trap means you can earn a ton of gold, or you can take it to an altar. Placing it on the profane altar makes a Gold Monkey appear. They follow you around like a pet and poop gold. It’s magical.
Mr. X Returns For Another Round [Streets of Rage 4]
Streets of Rage 4 is a fantastic return to the beat-em-up genre, and includes lots of callbacks to the previous games in the form of secret fights. By finding hidden arcade machines in each level, you can face off against one of the past game bosses.
By solving little puzzles and using tasers on the arcade machine, you’ll teleport into a Streets of Rage 2 level, complete with chunky pixels — you can fight the wrestler Abadede (which is an amazing name) and even better, you can fight Mr. X. The main villain of Streets of Rage returns in all his machine-gunning glory, bouncing around in his skyscraper office and blasting away. If you’ve ever played the original game, it’s totally a nostalgia trip.
