#10 Splatoon 2
- Developer: Nintendo EPD
- Publisher: Nintendo
Splatoon was one of the big video game titles to release on the Nintendo Wii U. It was a unique third-person shooter that allowed players of all ages to take part in. While the Nintendo Wii U was mainly a failure, the Nintendo Switch brought the franchise back with a sequel. Splatoon 2 puts players into the role of a squid-like creature where the challenge is to gain the most amount of turf in a match. Depending on your team color, the main focus with matches is to cover the ground and area with your ink while also battling against opposing teams using various ink based weapons. The team that has the ink colored covering most of the map wins the match.
#9 Xenoblade Chronicles 2
- Developer: Monolith Soft
- Publisher: Nintendo
Xenoblade Chronicles was a big hit for the Nintendo Wii U and the Nintendo Switch received a new installment not long after. Much of the game mechanics make a return though the story stars a new character. Overall, the game is set within the world of Elysium which is made up of mostly clouds. Right from the start of the game players will be introduced to a war between kingdoms Mor Ardain and Uraya.
If the Xenoblade franchise ever looked interesting to you then you’ll be delighted to know that this installment is a fine jumping point. While the game has some similarities to the game mechanics, the video game installment is set apart from the other titles so if you’re afraid of not knowing the story because it looks like it follows directly after the events from the last installment, then rest assure you have nothing to worry about.
#8 Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle
- Developer: Ubisoft
- Publisher: Ubisoft
Mario and the Rabbids franchises have collided with the release of Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. Developed under Ubisoft, Mario and his new team of Rabbids are against Bowser and his clan. This is a turn-based tactical RPG which is a bit different then a majority of the Mario games we’re used to playing. Likewise, this game wasn’t developed under Nintendo but instead Ubisoft so it’s a pretty interesting take on the Mario franchise and one that would be worth playing if you have a friend interested in more tactical and thought out combat.
#7 Fire Emblem: Three Houses
- Developer: Intelligent Systems
- Publisher: Koei Tecmo Games
If you’re after a strategy RPG title then you can’t go wrong with Fire Emblem: Three Houses. This is the first installment of the franchise to have made its debut on the Nintendo Switch platform. Players follow a story in which the protagonist, Byleth, teaches a class of students as they prepare for battle. With the world around them seemingly crumbling with rival factions, Byleth has a pretty big task of preparing warriors but suddenly a woman that only Byleth can see appears leaving a new mystery for you to unfold. Players can freely explore and talk with a wide cast of characters, but in battles, you’ll be going through the game as a turn-based tactical fight.
#6 The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
- Developer: Nintendo, Grezzo
- Publisher: Nintendo
There is a growing list of titles being added into The Legend of Zelda franchise, but its always good to get a look back at the classics. This latest installment to have released in the market is The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, a game that originally released exclusively for the Nintendo Game Boy. Chances are you don’t have a Game Boy laying around or a copy of the game and that’s perfectly fine. If you were hoping to enjoy the game Nintendo gave players a new means to do so with the recent remake.
Nintendo opted to stay rather true to the game itself by keeping a top-down perspective title with the feel of being the classic retro-style video game. There has been a nice little face lift to give the title a bit more of a cartoon style design but overall, you’re going to find the game intact if you’re familiar with the original release.
This time around the story follows Link who gets caught in a bad storm that leaves him marooned on an island. Learning that the island holds eight magical instruments that could summon a Wind Fish, Link sets off to locate all the instruments and prepare his ship for an escape.
