Top Upcoming Strategy Video Games of 2019

August 2, 2019 by Dennis Patrick

Don’t miss out on these anticipated strategy games of 2019.

Gears Tactics
  • Developer: The Coalition
  • Publisher: Xbox Game Studios
  • Platforms: PC
  • Release: 2019

Gears Tactics is one of those games that got a brief reveal in E3 2018 and since then we’ve really been waiting to hear more. The Gears franchise, in general, is rather big and quite known since it was released originally on the Xbox 360. Now years later we’re moving up to our fifth main installment to the game series with Gears Tactics being a tactical strategy title.

Again, details are still scarce and we’re waiting to hear more information hopefully during E3 of this year. However, what is known so far is that the game will take place twelve years prior to Gears of War with a new squad.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses
  • Developer: Intelligent Systems
  • Publisher: Nintendo
  • Platforms: NS
  • Release: 2019

During Nintendo’s E3 2018 Nintendo Direct video upload we received the announcement of Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Unfortunately, Nintendo didn’t get into any details regarding the game outside of a small trailer which showcases a brutal war. Players will follow Byleth, Edelgard, Dimitri, and Claude in a new tactical RPG journey but for now, we’ll have to wait until more details are announced for the game.

Xenonauts 2
  • Developer: Goldhawk Interactive
  • Publisher: Goldhawk Interactive
  • Platforms: PC
  • Release: 2019

Fans of Xenonauts can enjoy even more turn-based tactical gameplay with the upcoming sequel. This time around, the game will take place in an alternate history timeline set within the Cold War. Because of the new setting, this upcoming sequel will not include any advanced alien technology. While the game does not have any specific release date attached quite yet, a demo is available through Gog.com. Within the demo, players will be able to try an early pre-alpha build of the game to give a slight look at the upcoming game which is still expected to launch within the year.

Age of Empires 4
  • Developer: Relic Entertainment
  • Publisher: Microsoft Studios
  • Platforms: PC
  • Release: TBD

Age of Empires is finally back after over a decade wait since the release of Age of Empires 3. Unfortunately, not too many details were released by Relic Entertainment and from the footage so far shown to promote the game, it appears that we will see a wide variety of territories along with eras. It’s worth noting that alongside Age of Empires 4, both Age of Empires 2 and Age of Empires 3 are in development so it seems that gamers will definitely get their fill of the franchise hopefully within the year. Currently, the game doesn’t have a release date yet and with the slim amount of news released for the upcoming fourth installment, we expect that we’ll hear plenty more about the game before it actually hits the market.

Tropico 6
  • Developer: Limbic Entertainment
  • Publisher: Kalypso Media
  • Platform: PC, PS4, XBO
  • Release: 2018

The Tropico series is well-known with the sixth main installment launching at some point this year. Players will handle the role of a political president that must bring his country through the hard times it’s currently in. With social unrest and a turmoil over the political outlook, maintaining order and bringing the country together will bring players a challenging task as they attempt to win the citizen’s favor. We know that players will be taking the role of El Presidente within the Caribbean island nation of Tropico where players will control the lands over the course of four eras. One of the new elements being introduced to the franchise is controlling an archipelago of islands where players can build bridges and connect the islands together. Likewise, AI will be tweaked even further which means that if players make a decision that is unfavorable to the citizens then that may cause a shift in productivity to even dealing with revolts.
