The 33 Best Multiplayer Video Games Of This Generation So Far

March 5, 2019 by Dennis Patrick

Enjoy some great multiplayer games for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch platforms.

#15 Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime
  • Developer: Asteroid Base
  • Publisher: Asteroid Base

Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is a much-beloved indie title by developers Asteroid Base. The video game is relatively easy to understand once you pick up the controller, but it becomes tough to master making it hard to set the game down after starting.

Within the game, players are in control of a ship and must fight off enemy ships. If you have a few friends, this is a perfect game to play as Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime offers up to four-player multiplayer.

In the game, players will find that in order to control a ship they must travel to various departments of their ship making it a constant battle to defeat your friends and keeping your ship safe.

#14 Destiny 2
  • Developer: Bungie
  • Publisher: Activision

Bungie’s Destiny franchise is heavily focused on connecting with friends as you go through the various campaign quests. The latest installment, Destiny 2, brings in a whole new campaign, Exotic Weapons, Crucible Maps, Strikes, Raids, and more.

A quick turnoff for some gamers may be the repetitiveness you could find yourself in while going through Destiny 2 as there could be some grinding involved. Likewise, because there’s a bigger influence in going through the campaigns or side missions with a team, the casual gamer who is seeking a narrative journey to enjoy on their own time may wish to pass this franchise up.

#13 Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
  • Developer: Ubisoft
  • Publisher: Ubisoft

Mario and the Rabbids franchises have collided with the release of Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. Developed under Ubisoft, Mario and his new team of Rabbids are against Bowser and his clan. This is a turn-based tactical RPG which is a bit different then majority of the Mario games we’re used to playing. There is even a Donkey Kong themed expansion available if you end up enjoying the base game.

#12 Rocket League
  • Developer: Psyonix
  • Publisher: Psyonix
  • Platforms: PC, PS4, XBO, NS
  • Release: July 7, 2015 (PS4)

It doesn’t take very much to describe Rocket League. The game quickly exploded in popularity when it launched back in 2015 and its popularity still holds strong to this day.

Essentially, Rocket League is a soccer title though played with fast vehicles that can launch into the air to either block or knock the ball into a goal post.

#11 Gears of War 4
  • Developer: The Coalition
  • Publisher: Microsoft Studios

The Gears of War franchise has been popular since it first debuted on the Xbox 360. Years later the game series received its fourth main installment that followed years after the events of Gears of War 3.

Players this time around took control of J.D. Fenix, the son of Marcus Fenix, who is a member of the COG army. With the world out of fossil fuels and new terrors lurk outside of city sanctuaries, COG must continue to keep humanity safe. However, new rebellious groups seeks a world that is rid of the COG reign.
