Black Ops 4: Blackout – Check Out All 14 Areas & What They’re Based On | Map Guide

October 10, 2018 by Kevin Thielenhaus

Take a tour of Blackout, the new Battle Royale map built for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, with our rundown of all 14 locations. Here’s what you can expect, and what old maps they’re referencing.

#9: Rivertown

  • References: Rivertown (Modern Warfare 1)

You might ask yourself — what the heck is Rivertown based on? It’s got to be the most obscure reference in Blackout. Rivertown is a map that doesn’t exist. It’s cut content from  the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare campaign. We don’t know what Rivertown looked like, but it was most likely a Russian location, naturally beside a river. Rivertown is kind of like that. Sort of.

Rivertown is nestled in the center of the map, with several rivers meeting alongside it. The town itself isn’t particularly special. There are plenty of small towns will buildings and covered bridges criss-crossing the middle of the Blackout map, and Rivertown is just an extension of those zones. Lots of buildings, lots of cover. Just don’t get caught out in the open while sprinting from one quaint seaside house to the next.

#10: Fracking Tower

  • References: (Check back soon for updates!)

The Fracking Tower is a muddy, forested area with large woodworking rooms and industrial buildings. There are several buildings you can climb and cross through, but the Grapple Hook gives you surprising freedom to reach the rooftops easily, giving you instant advantages in building-to-building gunfights. There’s a lot going on in these places, and you’ll usually end up in medium-range engagements.

The eponymous tower doesn’t offer much protection. You’ll want to stick to the trailers and machining rooms. They’re often large, with open ports — and the buildings themselves are filled with tight, tiny rooms. Don’t let yourself be caught by surprise while exploring these complicated structures!
