Explore the secret side of Kirby: Star Allies with our rundown of all the Easter eggs and cool secret stuff we’ve found so far. There are old classic Easter eggs like the HAL developer room, different stone statues, and secret levels — you know, the kind of stuff you’d expect. Then there’s the new stuff, including a very surprising use for HD Rumble that I’ve never seen before.
We’ll keep a running list of all the Easter eggs and add more as they’re discovered. The creators of Kirby, HAL Labs, are notoriously playful and reverent to their long-running series of Nintendo-exclusive (and adjacent) sidescrolling adventures. In almost every game, there’s a star at the very end that leads to a secret room with HAL Labs’ written somewhere in the background — you’ll always find plenty of stuff inside. That’s where we’ll start.
Easter Eggs Guide

HAL Developer Room
As is tradition in Kirby games, there’s a hidden HAL room to find near the end of the game. Before going through the shiny star door at the very, very last room — fly up toward an “X” shaped hole in the background. You’ll see a tiny bright yellow star in the far-off space. Press [Up] to enter the HAL Labs room.
The room is full of power-ups — and a huge “HAL” written in blocks. Grab the Festive Dance enemy and use the super-power to smash all the blocks at once, summoning another set of HAL blocks with extra lives and other goodies.
Old-School Secret Level
After beating the game, you’ll unlock an extra level — a bonus secret level that’s a big celebration of the entire game and everything you’ve accomplished so far. That is, until it takes an old-school turn. Later in the level, you’ll reach a large background block with a cross and two “dot”-like platforms with an empty space above.
A door will appear in the empty space. That background with the cross and dots? That’s an original Gameboy, and going through the door sends Kirby into an old-school level that’s completely grey-scale (or green-scale) — and there’s another weird Easter egg at the end.
HD Rumble Kirby Theme
At the end of the secret level’s green-scale original Gameboy section, you’ll encounter a large button that’s not-so-secretly hidden. Stomp on the button to summon a giant statue of Kirby, with the words “We [Heart] Kirby” over his head.
That’s not the interesting part — the cool part is that, if you’re using Switch Joy-Cons, the HD Rumble will play a lo-fi version of Kirby’s theme from his original Dream Land Gameboy appearance. I had no idea HD Rumble could play sound effects, and I can’t even think of another game that uses this feature.
Stone Powerup
Fans of Kirby should know by now that the Stone power can transform Kirby into some rare, awesome shapes. Like always, the Stone power turns Kirby into, well, a stone that can drop on enemies, and makes Kirby invulnerable while he’s in stone form. Here’s a few of the different (cool) stone shapes Kirby will rarely transform into.
- A Star Block
- Muscle Man Posing Statue
- Four Star Allies Rolling
- Kirby Cheering
- Volcano Diorama
- An Empty Robobot Suit
- Treasure Chest Monster
- King Dedede Statue
- Meta Knight + Lieutenant
- The Kirby Seal of Quality
- HAL Labs Logo Plaque
Not only are there rare stone statues, you can also create your own stone sculptures with the artist power, chiseling different shapes instantly from a giant block of rock. There are even more rare secrets in these friend powers, but we’ll let you discover those on your own.
