Misery
- HP: 500
- Weapon: Nemesis
After seeing Misery throughout the game and even being challenged in the past, you’ll finally have your shot to face against her on the Balcony. Luckily, players are able to cause damage mostly the entire time, though there is some tricky element to the battle.
Misery has some indicators on what she is about to do which is helpful once you are able to memorize the movements.
Misery Attacks
- Flashing – Invincible and will shoot five dark orbs.
- If you’re far away she will use orbs to bring you in.
- Flashing – Can drop a large block on top of you.
With these indicators in mind, the best route is to use Spur’s if you are able but really anything can do the job. The tough part is watching the indicators, though, at low health, Misery can wield shields which you’ll have to shoot in between them.
Doctor (First Battle)
- HP: 300
- Weapon: Any
After all this time you will finally get the opportunity to defeat the Doctor who is the main antagonist of Cave Story. Meeting the Doctor on the Balcony, he will demonstrate ultimate power by consuming the red flowers.
The first fight against is relatively easy as he only has two means of attack. The first is a long wave of red energy which you can Boost above or stay within the middle the wave while the second is the same type of energy taking a ball form that will bounce around.
Dodge these energy attacks while firing off your Spur or anything else you may have against the Doctor. Overall, the best opportunity to strike the Doctor is when he teleports.
Doctor (Second Battle)
- HP: 300
- Weapon: Any
It may have seemed that you did away with the Doctor but it turns out he has a new form. This form has the Doctor using his own strength to defeat you so you won’t have to worry about energy attacks.
The Doctor will dash, jump, and teleport near you, so it’s best to keep away when possible and fire off anything you have at him.
One of the new attacks that the Doctor seems to have is the ability to spawn a swarm of bats. When this happens, try to stay close and destroy the bats before they flood up the room. Any weapon should do the trick, the focus on the battle will, however, mainly be keeping your distance from the Doctor.
Undead Core
- HP: 700
- Weapon: Any
The Undead Core battle will not only feature the possessed Core but Sue and Misery. The battle between Sue and Misery shouldn’t be much of a problem, Sue will have the power of flight and can charge at you while Misery’s attacks are a bit more of a headache. Misery can summon a number of different creatures such as homing fish and bats to attack you. Keep on your feet and dodge their attacks while using anything you have to destroy them.
Undead Core will be you main fight in this battle. This Core has three methods of attack and depending on what attack it is using will determine where you should be on the map.
Undead Core Attacks
- Orange Skull – Energy orbs that will go along ceiling and ground. You should stay on a platform.
- Teeth – Rapid energy attack. Boost or jump to avoid them.
- Mouth – Both Orange Skull and Teeth attack along with three massive orbs of energy. Avoid everything if possible, especially the massive orbs of energy.
You will only see the Mouth attack when the Undead Core is low on energy. Make sure to keep track of the Undead Core’s indicators and use anything you have at it, though using the Spur weapon would be ideal.
Heavy Press
- HP: 700
- Weapon: Any, Super Missiles
Found in Blood Stained Sanctuary B3, players will battle against an oversized press. Though he may be oversized, the press also has the ability to deal lightning attacks, so it’s best to avoid being under him for very long.
Likewise, you will see that Butes will come in from the sides as well, so you’ll need to watch out for them when possible.
Defeating Heavy Press can be done with just about anything though Super Missiles may work best. Fire at the Heavy Press between his lighting attacks until his HP is depleted. When his HP is done for, immediately run to the side as he will come falling down.
Ballos
- HP: 3,808
- Weapon: Any, Super Missiles
After defeating the Heavy Press, you will come across one last final boss and he is strong. The boss is named Ballos and he is located in the Seal Chamber of the Blood Stained Sanctuary. To top it off, Ballos has four forms so prepare for a long battle.
Form One
The first form is simply playing chase with Ballos. You want to continue to fire at him with anything and everything when he begins to chase you around. Fly up, run left or right, whatever you do, don’t stop shooting.
At some point, Ballos will start up a new attack which is to fly up and send lightning bolts down. Avoid the crosshairs that show up on the ground and continued to fire up at Ballos.
Form Two
His second form will give him more of a rock exterior. He will jump up and down so it’s best to stay clear and wait for him to rest. When he starts to rest, jump on the platform near his eye and unleash havoc until you finally defeat this form.
Form Three
At this form, Ballos will have floating eyes circling him which you will have to keep shooting until all the eyes are closed. Avoid being hit by them and also note that when he flies upwards, skulls will fall down so you’ll need to avoid being hit by one of those.
Form Four
The last and final form for Ballos will have platforms rotating around him along with eyes. If you have Missiles, the best bet is to wait until a spike bursts from the ground and hits you causing your character to have a brief moment of invincibility.
When you are invincible, jump onto his left eye and fire away with your Missiles which will grant a quick victory.
However, if you choose to not use the Missiles, then fire with anything you have between the eyes at Ballos while avoiding Butes that will spawn in the area. If needed, the eyes can be fired upon which will cause them to fall down.
Continue to hit Ballos with everything you have until he is finally defeated.
