Persona 5| Five Tips for Surviving Your First Few Hours

April 8, 2017 by Hayden Russell

Persona 5 is a huge game, which means there is a lot to tackle. Luckily, Gameranx’s Persona 5 guide is here to lead you through this RPG.

Welcome to the dark, high school anime world of Persona 5. Even though you are only teenagers, it is up to you to save Tokyo from corruption! This game is huge, so you’ll need all the help you can get to find all of the game’s secrets. Lucky for you, Gameranx is here to save the day! Stay tuned for more Persona 5 guides! Here is our top five tips for surviving your first few hours with Persona 5.

5. Pay Attention to Street Signs

Just like the real-world version of Tokyo, Persona 5‘s bustling metropolis is huge and often difficult to navigate around. Whether you are trying to catch the subway to school in the morning, or just trying to find a great place to grab some ramen, it’s very easy to get lost. Don’t worry though! Many times you can find out where you’re supposed to go just by looking at the signs and sights of your area. For instance, I got lost on my first day of school trying to find the right subway line, but luckily I was able to find the right path by paying attention to the graphs that are posted all throughout the metro station. If you keep your wits about you, you’ll learn Persona 5‘s Tokyo like the back of your hand.

4. Try to Get the Jump on Your Enemies

While the battle system of Persona 5 is turn-based, that doesn’t mean you can’t get the jump on the enemy monsters before battles. As you’re sneaking around palaces, avoid enemy sight and you’ll be able to perform a sneak attack, dealing extra damage to them before the fight even begins. This can help keep the alarm down in the palace as well as give you an edge against those more imposing baddies. In Persona 5, the shadows are your ally, use them to your advantage and you’ll be saving the world from darkness before you even know it.

3. Know Your Enemy Types

The turn-based combat of Persona 5 is very reminiscent of older RPG titles like the Pokemon and Final Fantasy franchises. Falling right into this tradition, the enemies you come across in Persona 5 each have their own strengths and weaknesses you will need to discover along the way. The first time you fight a new monster, you won’t be able to see their strengths and weaknesses, but as you attack them, you’ll gain more insight on how to take them down. After fighting new enemies a couple of times, use the analyze button and you’ll see what kinds of attacks they are particularly weak to, making dropping them even easier.

2. Talk to EVERYONE

The world of Persona 5 is huge and it’s packed with people (besides the enemies) that you can talk to. Anytime you enter a new area, make sure to check all of the hallways, back alleys, and rooms, because you never know what kinds of helpful, interesting people you may meet. This is a great way to learn secrets about the game world, get the lowdown on what your classmates think of you, or even catch a few easter eggs you might have missed.

1. Play it Your Way

The protagonist is nameless for a reason. This is your game, your experience, so you ultimately choose how you progress through the game. Whether that means running through the palaces guns blazing or taking the sneaky route, you can make Persona 5 your own. Your decisions impact how you interface with the world, as well as how the world sees you, so be wary if you choose to be a little sarcastic throughout the game, because you never know who could be your potential allies…or enemies. Additionally, although you can play your way, it will affect the ending of the game. The world is yours for the taking, but you’ll also be held accountable for your actions. Take Your Time.
