While the Silent Hill franchise isn't as big as it once was for Konami, can this fledgling series be Hideo Kojima's next project?
During yesterday's Eurogamer Expo developer session with the father of Metal Gear, Kojima talks about the Silent Hill franchise and admits he'd "love to participate" in such a project. Not only that, Konami's president even rung him up personally to tell him that he'd like Kojima to do the next Silent Hill game.
In the past I've mentioned Silent Hill in interviews, and as a result of that the president of Konami rung me up and said he'd like me to make the next Silent Hill.
Honestly, I'm kind of a scaredy-cat when it comes to horror movies, so I'm not confident I can do it. At the same time, there's a certain type of horror that only people who are scared of can create, so maybe it's something I can do…That said, I think Silent Hill has a certain atmosphere. I think it has to continue, and I'd love to help it continue, and if I can help by supervising or lending the technology of the Fox Engine, then I'd love to participate in that respect.
So, he wants it, the president of Konami wants it. I gather it's only a matter of time until this is made, no? Not that I'd mind. Kojima's execution when it comes to creating a game's ambience and narrative is second to none. I frankly am surprised he still hasn't made a proper horror game up to now, to be honest.
Although there is this little game called Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes that needs to be finished first before Kojima can lend his talents at the horror franchise. So it might take a while.
Nonetheless, does the prospect of Kojima making a Silent Hill game excite you or are you wary he might muddy it all up with too much exposition?
Thanks, Eurogamer
