ArenaNet temporarily disabled its direct sales of Guild Wars 2 pending issues with the rising server population and their inability to cope with the demand for bandwidth. The studio had to suspend sales as they looked for ways to combat high player concurrency rates.
The suspension which went into effect on August 30 has since been lifted, and the company is once again selling copies of the game directly through its website and filling orders from retailers both digital and physical.
In addition to the development, ArenaNet has also added new game servers in both North American and European regions and doubled its customer support operations to cope with the increasing number of players.
"Preserving the customer experience has always been our top priority," said Mike O’Brien, president and co-founder of ArenaNet. "We're supporting Guild Wars 2 for the long run. We'll always do what it takes to deliver the best online gaming experience for our customers, even when that means throttling sales."
Guild Wars 2 is only available for the PC. Unlike other MMORPGs, the game does not have a subscription fee.
