Smite’s Next Year Of Content Outlined, Featuring Many Changes

January 5, 2017 by Kris Kittie

A new God, new map for Clash, and much more is detailed.

Hi-Rez Studios has previewed the upcoming fourth season and many of the changes that will be in store for Smite players. Among the studio’s announcements today at the ongoing Hi-Rez Expo were a wide range of details on Season 4.

The Celtic pantheon makes it debut in the 3.25 patch with the addition of The Morrigan, a new Mage who can transform into other characters. In addition, a special Path of the Phantom Queen event will soon begin where you can unlock skins and items by completing certain objectives. This will be a paid event, though Amazon/Twitch Prime members will get free access.

Also making its debut this year is a new map for Clash. This will be themed around the Egyptian pantheon and sees some significant changes to its layout. It will still be a two-lane map, but the Gold Fury and Fire Giant have both been taken out. Buff camps have been adjusted, they’ll be more difficult to defeat as the match progresses, yet they offer improved buffs.

A new boss, Apophis eventually emerges in the middle of the map and provides an unspecified buff. Units and towers look different, with phoenixes attacking in a new way. Now the phoenixes shoot a constant beam that increases damage over time.

Items are changing as well, though we do not yet know many of the specifics. On a broad scale, starter and tier 1 items will be reworked, and Relics can be upgraded for gold. New Relics are being introduced, while others removed, and two new types of items will be added. Rituals are expensive, one-use consumables, while Containers are consumables that can be refilled back at base.

Hi-Rez is planning to offer more Smite Adventures. These are described as “episodic events” that offer unique rewards. Ranked play’s schedule gets shuffled to align it with the Spring/Summer/Fall format of the professional scene. Each leg results in a soft reset and a new ladder to climb. The season ticket will be free for all players, but new paid elements will be available as well. The overall UI gets a refresh, and it will be possible to queue up multiple playlists at once.

There are no specific dates for any of these events or changes, but more news will come soon.
