Earlier today Sefton Hill, game director for Batman Arkham Knight, held an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit. He gave some interesting answers for fans regarding the Arkham series and such, but one question, in particular, stood out; and it was that Arkham Knight will not be receiving any PS4 Pro patch.
Unfortunately, we are not planning a patch for PS4 at this time. I know that’s not what you want to hear but better to be honest. We did release a patch for Arkham VR to support the Pro, which is a nice piece of tech. I’m looking forwards to playing it with my new 4k TV!
However, the Superman talk you came here for did not pop up in Hill’s Reddit, but rather another Reddit page where the user TheLeakguin had inside knowledge of both Rocksteady and WB Montreal’s plans. It has been rumored a while that WB Montreal are working on another Batman title which focuses on Damian Wayne, Bruce’s son; and once again this leak also confirms that theory. However, to get the full details on that story, click here.
While spilling the beans about WB Montreal’s plans, user TheLeakguin went on to say that he knows Rocksteady is working on their next project, and it is indeed a Superman game. Now take this with a grain of salt, because this could be totally made up. But, TheLeakguin does go into slight detail about what and how the Superman game would play from early developer meetings.
As for what Rocksteady is working on, they started work on a Superman game but have run into many issues. Superman had to be depowered for part of the game and even at the maximum strength they had him be much weaker than he normally is (there are skins that make him unstoppable).
The plot saw him facing off against magical foes, as well as familiar faces like Lex Luthor and Metallo that would utilize Kryptonite. There was also a challenge mode, much like in the Arkham games. The plan was to announce this game at the Video Game Awards this year but that fell apart.
The coolest part about this project are the collectible skins. Each skin determines his move set and his weaknesses. The more powerful incarnations of Superman are harder to obtain, obviously. All of the movie incarnations of Superman are in as well as many of the comic versions. You can also play as Cyborg Superman, Zod, and even Nuclear Man from the God-awful Superman IV film (easter egg skin).
However, there seems to be some truth to TheLeakguin’s claim that Rocksteady will use multiple skins to power Superman. As you can see from the picture above, the very bottom of the picture suggests that their will be multiple skins for players to choose from. This specific suit seems to be the New 52 skin. This picture leaked over a year ago, so it would line up to fit Rocksteady’s schedule.
The Superman game would have players facing off familiar villains like Lex Luthor, who made a slight cameo in Arkham Knight. But due to early complications on deciding how to balance Superman the game has been slightly slowed down. TheLeakguin states that the announcement was supposed to come at The Game Awards, but since the game is taking long, they decided to halt the announcement for now.
They started full force right after the last DLC for Arkham Knight was finished. A lot of the ideas were laid out a little before. The announcement was more to just drum up hype and announce early what they’re working on.
Once again, this should all be taken with a grain of salt until an official announcement comes from Rocksteady themselves. It is exciting to hear that there could potentially be a Superman game in the works, but sometimes things like this could fall through and never see the light of day; especially such a hard task like Superman.
Nonetheless, Sefton Hill did mention on his own AMA that the team over at Rocksteady are very hard at work on their next title; and that they won’t be announcing any more details for a while.
We’re very hard at work on our next project but we won’t be releasing the details for a while. When we do you guys will be first to hear as we want to get the community involved heavily in what we do next.
Is there a Superman game in the works? Who knows, maybe. Are we excited for what Rocksteady’s next project is regardless? Of course.
