Dead Rising 4
Developer: Capcom Vancouver
Publisher: Microsoft Studios
Platforms: PC, XB1, PS4
Release Date: TBA 2017 (PlayStation 4)
Dead Rising 4 will see the return of Frank West set in a Christmas-themed Willamette, Colorado. The video game will have players fighting off the undead horde while using a variety of weapons both standalone or crafted by the player. Unlike the previous installments of the Dead Rising series, Dead Rising 4 has been confirmed to not include a timer system.
As mentioned, the video game is set to launch officially on the Microsoft Windows 10 and Xbox One platforms this December 6, 2016. However, it was revealed that these platforms are only timed exclusives with expectations that Dead Rising 4 will be launching at some point in 2017 for the PlayStation 4.
Outlast 2
Developer: Red Barrels
Publisher: Red Barrels
Platforms: PC, PS4, XB1
Release Date: TBA 2017
Outlast 2, by development team Red Barrels, will follow similar game mechanics of the first installment to the survival-horror franchise. Players this time around will take on the role of Blake Langermann, an investigative journalist, and cameraman, alongside his wife, as they uncover clues to a murder of a pregnant woman.
In their journey, Blake and his wife become separated after their helicopter crashes. Much like the past installment, players are not suited with the ability to combat the enemy forces. Instead, our protagonist will mostly have to hide and run away from any danger.
However, since Blake is already a cameraman, he is equipped with a more advanced camera that will offer clearer footage, zoom, an audio detection system, and of course night vision. Gamers will still have to hunt down new batteries for the camera when it drains from night vision use just as they did before.
Resident Evil 7
Developer: Capcom
Publisher: Capcom
Platforms: PC, PS4, XB1
Release Date: January 24, 2017
Resident Evil 7 is generating quite a bit of buzz. This upcoming installment is changing a few things up such as players will be going through the game in a first-person perspective. Likewise, Capcom seems to be going back to the original tone of the Resident Evil franchise with less action-oriented moments and a more survival-horror atmosphere.
The game is set to take place four years after the events of Resident Evil 6, in a fictional city of Dulvey, Louisiana. Players will be taking on the role of Ethan, a man who is searching for his missing wife, which leads him into a derelict plantation mansion which is home to the oddity Baker family.
It seems that Ethan will have to escape from the cannibalistic Baker family while also searching for clues of his missing wife. To give players an extra little scare, Capcom is adding PlayStation VR functionality to the game.
Resident Evil 2 Remake
Developer: Capcom
Publisher: Capcom
Platforms: TBA
Release Date: TBA 2017
Much like the first installment of the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil 2 will soon receive its own full HD remake. The video game doesn’t have too many details out yet though we doubt there will be several drastic changes from the original Resident Evil 2 video game that launched back in 1998.
However, one thing is for sure, this is a remake built from the ground up rather than a remastered edition. Unfortunately, there’s no release date or specific platforms announced for the video game though it’s likely the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms will be receiving the title. What’s uncertain is if we’ll also see the Nintendo Switch also receive the video game.
Dead Island 2
Developer: Sumo Digital
Publisher: Deep Silver
Platforms: PC, PS4, XB1
Release Date: TBA 2017
Dead Island 2 was unveiled during E3 2014 and we’re still eagerly waiting for the title to release. Set to be the third installment to the Dead Island series, Dead Island 2 is said to feature a new open world taking players to Los Angeles, San Francisco, and another undisclosed location within California.
Overall, the story follows several months after the events of Dead Island, where the United States Armed Forces have put all of California in a full quarantine due to the zombie outbreak. The video game itself has had a rocky development process with the title originally slated to launch in 2016.
However, with Sumo Digital taking over the video game development, it’s expected that the title will see a release at some point in 2017.
Days Gone
Developer: SIE Bend Studio
Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
Platforms: PlayStation 4
Release Date: TBA 2016
Days Gone is a video game being developed by SIE Bend Studios and interestingly enough, this will be their first IP creation since their 1999 release of Syphon Filter. Not much has been revealed for Days Gone quite yet, but we do know that this will be an open world zombie post-apocalyptic video game.
Players will be controlling Deacon St. John who was once a bounty hunter. Now that the world has been invested with a disease turning humans into the living undead, Deacon St. John will take to the open road in an attempt to survive another day.
State of Decay 2
Developer: Undead Labs
Publisher: Microsoft Studios
Platforms: PC, XB1
Release Date: TBA 2017
There are not too many details released for State of Decay 2 as of right now. We do know that this video game is a sequel to the 2013 State of Decay and will focus heavily on cooperative gameplay with up to three other players.
Overall, State of Decay 2 is a zombie-survival game that lets players have their own unique story. While battling zombies is very much a key aspect of the upcoming title release, players are encouraged to work together in setting up their own community that’s able to successfully take out the undead threat.
We Happy Few
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNwK16kC4Fk
Developer: Compulsion Games
Publisher: Compulsion Games
Platforms: PC, PS4, XB1
Release Date: TBA 2017
We Happy Few allow players to step into a world where society has been controlled by taking away their emotions and morals. The video game being developed by Compulsion Games takes place in a fictional English city that follows an alternate timeline of events after World War II.
Now as humanity strives to live a better life within the 1960s, they’ve become accustomed to a new law and order, one of which that requires all citizens to consume a drug regularly. This drug blinds citizens of the real world, allowing them to only see joy. Gamers will take on the role of three individuals who decide to pass on their drug intake to complete a task that is not only important to each individual but personal.
Being discovered as a “downer”, or a person who refused to take their drug dosage, the city is out for blood wishing to cleanse you from stumbling out from the chosen path the government laid before you.
Allison Road
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFzix3fdOjQ
Developer: Far From Home
Publisher: Far From Home
Platforms: PC
Release Date: TBA 2017
Allison Road gained attention from the video game industry as a spiritual successor to P.T., the playable teaser for the now cancelled video game Silent Hills. While first being declared cancelled on June 4, 2016, the video game would enter development once again on August 22, 2016.
Gameplay is similar to P.T., where players will go through the game in a first-person perspective as they uncover clues and defeat a supernatural entity. As for the overall story, developers are keeping gamers mostly guessing as to what they can expect.
From what we know so far, the game will have players taking on the role of an unnamed protagonist as he roams around his home with suggestions that his family was a victim of a heinous crime. As the game progresses, players will have to fight against an unknown force that could very well be his family from the afterlife.
Visage
Developer: SadSquare Studio
Publisher: SadSquare Studio
Platforms: PC
Release Date: January 2017
Similar to Allison Road, a title we covered above, Visage is another spiritual successor to P.T. which places the gamer into an unknown home as the fight a supernatural entity. Again, much like Allison Road, not too many details have been revealed for the game.
What we do know is that the game will be based within a massive home that has been around for centuries. Dozens of families have lived within the home where many of them died brutally while others were able to live their lives out normally without any harm.
Scorn
Developer: Ebb Software
Publisher: Ebb Software
Platforms: PC
Release Date: TBA 2017
The horror title Scorn is all about immersion with the video game tossing players into a creepy atmospheric world that’s filled with grotesque creatures. One of the ways that Ebb Software is hoping to immerse players into this nightmarish world is by playing the entire game without any cutscenes. In fact, according to the past Kickstarter campaign page, Scorn doesn’t have a conventional plot but instead allows players to interpret the events and themes.
Another interesting aspect that will hopefully allow players to go through Scorn without being taken out of the gameplay experience is that the title will not have a HUD displays. Everything within the world is living and as players progress through the game, new areas will open up, however, don’t expect Scorn to hold your hand. You’ll have to think carefully about how to complete tasks and accomplish game goals.
