Fans of Fallout 4 and Skyrim will be disappointed to know that their favorite games will not be getting mod support on the PlayStation 4. Bethesda revealed today that the studio has long been able to support mods for the PS4, much as it does for the Xbox One, but Sony dropped the ball on the entire proposal.
The studio stated in a letter that after months of discussion with the Japanese company, Sony informed them that the company will be unable to offer mod support on the PS4.
“We regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition,” they wrote.
The company expressed its disappointment with Sony’s decision and noted that they had spent a considerable amount of time and resources to bring mod support to the PS4, and regret disappointing fans of the games.
“We consider this an important initiative and we hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience,” continued Bethesda. “However, until Sony will allow us to offer proper mod support for PS4, that content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim on PlayStation 4 will not be available.”
Bethesda states that it will provide an update should the situation change. It did not clarify the reasons for Sony’s decision.
