A development studio by the name of Fiddlesticks has created the world of Hue. It’s a part puzzle, part platformer, all adventure type of experience that’s centered around the protagonist changing the colors of the world in order to get past obstacles. Check out the gameplay trailer Fiddlesticks put out, and you’ll see the spectrum of opportunities that lay before you.
“The color-changing puzzles bring something genuinely fresh to the genre – we’ve had a real blast designing them,” said Creative Director Henry Hoffman. “Some of the latter stages of the game are incredibly devious – we’ll be taxing parts of the brain untouched by previous games.”
The story of Hue takes place in a black and white world, where the main character Hue tries to find out why his mother disappeared. Along the way, he discovers there’s color hiding in this world, and uses that to transform the reality before him. Whether it unlocks new areas, manipulates objects, or helps Hue interact with the environment, it all seems to be the key to helping his search find answers. Even if you’re colorblind, there’s accommodations for you in order to still enjoy what this game has to offer. It’s got quite an emotionally charged soundtrack to accompany the striking focus on visuals, coming together in what seems to be an appeal sort of package.
“Hue has been almost universally loved whenever we’ve taken it out to shows,” said Director Dan Da Rocha. “So we’re incredibly excited to be finally getting into people’s hands properly. We’ve spent the last couple of years in Hue’s world – it’s going to be brilliant to welcome some more visitors.”
Hue arrives August 23rd for PC, PS4, Vita, and Xbox One. Check out their website for more information.
