Microsoft Shoots Down another False Halo 4 Beta Website

Today, it was announced that Halo 4 will be released on November 6^th of this year. Many of us believed the game’s release would lie much further away, but Microsoft seems to be full of surprises.

However, the fact Microsoft has taken down yet another website claiming to offer beta access to Halo 4 is not surprising at all. In January, the same problem occurred, and Microsoft won. Yet again – we are not surprised. Microsoft seems to revel in fighting legal battles.

The website in particular was under the name of Halo4Beta.biz, and was breaching of all three elements listed under the ICANN policy, which is used in cases such as this:

1)      The domain name is identical or confusingly similar to a trademark in which the complainant has rights

2)      The owner has no rights or legitimate interests in respect of the domain name and;

3)      The domain name has been registered and is being used in bad faith.

Following the website’s loss in a short legal battle, the domain was transferred to Microsoft Corp. and will probably never see the light of day again.

Really, I did not think people fell for scams like this anymore. Guess I was wrong.
