UPDATE: Mighty No. 9 Wii U Version Potentially Bricking Consoles (Rumor)

June 21, 2016 by Nick Monroe

UPDATE: Deep Silver patching the game today.
The gaming community has grown concerned about Mighty No. 9’s Wii U version causing issues for the console itself.

MightyNo9HeaderUPDATE: Deep Silver told VentureBeat they’re remedying the issues with the Wii U as soon as possible. “We’re aware of some isolated incidents of consumers experiencing issues on Wii U, and they’re actually being addressed in a patch that’s deploying out on Wii U systems today,” Deep Silver said. “The patch is already live in Europe, and should be hitting U.S. before the end of the day.”

Conflicting reports are popping up on social media about the possibility of Mighty No 9 bricking Wii U consoles. Given the state of the game’s launch up to this point, the community’s concerns aren’t unfounded.

A very early report from GoNintendo stated that the loading times reached up to 45 seconds long, with users experiencing input lag and framerate issues. Other people are reporting crashes from numerous gameplay elements, such as whenever the protagonist shoots his weapon, or when one is trying to return to the title screen. But according to SeanHicksART, his friend’s Wii U was fully bricked after playing the Mighty No. 9 Wii U Digital version.

Regardless of the merit of the rumor, many gamers are concerned (1, 2, 3) about trying the game out at all now that this rumor is spreading around. We’ll update his page as soon as we can confirm whether or not cases of Wii U bricking are demonstrated to be happening. There’s no single source where this rumor, according to Twitter it started as people were using terminology meant to describe the game crashing or glitching to describe a “brick” effect, whereas a full-on actual console bricking would cause permanent damage to the game system.

Sonic the Hedgehog has offered his thoughts on the situation here.
