We’ve talked about modding and the massive creativity that the modding community has over the years. After all, these are people who truly dedicate themselves to pulling out all the stops to put things into video games that weren’t intended to be there, putting a little extra “spice” into their favorite titles, or pushing things so far that they literally make something unbelievable that no one would’ve thought of before. In the case of GTA V, even 12 years after its release, some modders are coming up with reasons to keep tweaking the game, even if it means completely overhauling the map and adding chunks to it to give players something new to enjoy!
Yes, that really is something that happened to GTA V, as someone on Nexus Mods, as noted by PC Gamer, went the distance and created not one, not two, but three all-new areas to add onto Los Santos, making the map far bigger than before.
How did this modder make it work? With a lot of effort, that’s for sure, as he did all of this on his own! He attached these “new areas” via things like bridges, and the areas themselves are pretty diverse. There’s one that resembles parts of Canada, then they brought in a full-on national park where you can do things like racing, and finally, for the “modern element,” they added a motorway straight from Europe.
That’s a lot of work for one person to do, and their intention was honestly rather pure. They wanted to make the map feel new, even though it was over a decade old. That way, gamers could have new adventures while they wait for Rockstar Games to finally get things together and release their next title. So, in many ways, these modders are providing content with the intent of entertaining people and helping them cope with the long wait for Rockstar’s next entry in the beloved series. How noble!
The irony here is that with a year-ish to wait until the next game, we could see more massive modding projects like this come together as a way to “ease the burden” on the community. We already know that the community is looking at the 6th game’s trailers and screenshots to try and “rebuild the map” to get an idea of how big things are. So, the real question here is, what will the community come up with next to create?
