Reece “Kiwi Talkz” Reilly has once again chimed in on Grand Theft Auto 6, alongside The Elder Scrolls 6, and the recently released Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

Reilly said this on Twitter:
Due to the insane wait and build up of 18 years for Metroid Prime 4, it’s clear it was never going to live up to the expectations of critics and fans alike.
I am convinced Elder Scrolls 6 is going to suffer the same fate.
I can’t see how it can possibly live up to the hype and the wait time will be similar to Prime 4 with about 17/18 years between entries, especially after the misstep with Starfield.
GTA 6 on the other hand I feel will live up to the expectations primarily because Rockstar has more time, money and resources than any other developer on the planet and can do things that no other developer can replicate, they can also rely on the infinite money glitch of GTA Online to print them money well they make sure it’s perfect.
This really speaks to where gamers are now when it comes to games. But before we assess Reilly’s hot take, we need to ask ourselves this:
Why Are Gamers So Negative In 2025?
Some people will argue that gamers are generally negative when it comes to video games. There’s a general sense that game companies are greedy, developers don’t understand what the gamers want, etc. etc.
There are probably some gamers who are always like that. But the loudest voices in the room rarely ever represents everyone.
A useful point of comparison is 2023. That year also saw its fill of poorly received and low selling video games.
But for the most part, it is considered one of the best years in gaming. Fans were hyped for much of the year. From Dead Space in January to Baldur’s Gate 3 in December, gamers found something to be excited about all year.
With that in mind, we would argue that 2025 has been a particularly more pessimistic year for video games than usual.
The popular games that did come out this year either faced controversy (Assassin’s Creed Shadows) or were quickly forgotten (The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered), if they were noticed at all.
Rockstar Was Part of The Bad Vibes
Obviously, the delay for Grand Theft Auto 6, after it was already delayed, has helped ruin this year in gamer’s minds. No one expected it to be brought up earlier, but there were hopes Rockstar would start promotions for it again.
We want to believe that Rockstar can get development and marketing to come together, but there’s no real guarantee of that.
We should acknowledge that Rockstar is not special compared to other game companies. They have also had duds and misfires, the worst arguably being Max Payne 3.
But Rockstar got where it is today because it doesn’t sit on its laurels. We imagine it’s also taking some risks with Grand Theft Auto 6 that they’re also not sure are going to fly.
What’s more important, in our minds, than maintaining a metascore, is finding new ways to keep the fans interested, and to keep them coming back for more.
