It sounds like we’ll already be getting a sequel to Mafia: The Old Country.

As reported by GameReactor, actress Carina Conti confirmed that Take-Two already signed off on a sequel.

This came out in a livestream where YouTuber Bubbly Nuggets played the game while talking with her and other hosts. Conti said this:

I do think the company was approved for another sequel, another Mafia game, which is very exciting.

Did It Look Like Mafia: The Old Country Was Getting A Sequel?

Mafia: The Old Country received fair, but not excellent, reviews overall. It received a MetaCritic of 72 on PlayStation 5, 72 on Xbox Series X|S, and 74 on PC. This averaged scores that ranged from the 60s to the 80s.

That does not necessarily rule out the possibility of a sequel. Take-Two may have approved a sequel if they saw the sales of this game. As of now, the publisher has yet to make those sales figures public.

It’s also possible that Take-Two saw there was sufficient upside to keep Hangar 13 making Mafia games even if this title didn’t sell or was reviewed that much higher than the average.

Or, it may have simply been the case that Take-Two signed the contract for multiple Mafia games with Hangar 13 well in advance. They may have no intention to cancel those plans for the sake of using the Mafia license.

It does seem at the very least most fans are happy with Mafia: The Old Country moving away from changes made in Mafia III. Moving back to the Italian mob for its theme, and a linear action game for genre was at least enough to get the old fans back.

Conti Throws Another Wrench In

But Conti says something else after this that seems to put a spin on her statement. When host Bubbly Nuggets points out that they should have some idea where this story goes because players know the ending, she said this:

I don’t think we do know where the story goes. Like, we know what happens in this story, right? But how does it tie into the other stories?

As for now, we don’t know how the story of the Torrisi family back in San Celeste in the 1900s connects to the story of the Morello and Salieri families in the Prohibition era in the 1930s. There’s definitely a lot of story they could fit in between those three decades.

They could connect the Torrisis to either the Morellos, the Salieris, or both. And that could justify a three game deal, or possibly even more.
