Nintendo is a household name in gaming, they burst onto the console scene with the Famicom and Nintendo Entertainment System and have practically gone from strength to strength since. What many don’t know is that Nintendo arrived at a time when console gaming was all but dead, sales had stagnated, games were limited and failed to capture the hearts and minds of a larger audience. All of that changed with clever marketing, excellent product design and a killer game catalog. A strategy that the company has stuck to since.
As shared by the folks over at Go Nintendo, Nintendo has sold 860 million hardware units and over 5.9 billion software units since bursting onto the scene. To further reinforce their long standing reputation the company recently reported that they had sold 3.5 million Nintendo Switch 2 consoles in the console’s first four days.
The company also sold record numbers of the Nintendo Switch. Which at the time of release was the first truly hybrid console of its kind. These sales were of course helped by the company’s excellent marketing. It also bears mentioning that a key proponent of the company’s success is the catalog, which has almost always been stellar.
Nintendo’s figures are sure to keep climbing in the future as more and more games hit the market for the Switch 2 and gamers feel an ever increasing need to purchase a Switch 2. Donkey Kong Bananza has been a popular topic in the press recently, if you’d like to find out why click here.
