Mortal Kombat fans are enjoying the latest mainline installment to hit the marketplace, Mortal Kombat 1. The game was released back in 2023 and marked a reboot of sorts. Players were getting a new timeline after the ending of Mortal Kombat 11. So, while it was a good jumping-on point for newcomers and something fresh for veterans, rumors started to swirl online recently that we might be seeing the DLC end.
If you recall, reports started to surface online late last year that NetherRealm Studios was ending DLC for the game. This was aimed at story expansions or another Kombat Pack. But it was also noted that after the developers released the Terminator character into the roster, there wouldn’t be anything else on the horizon for the game.
Again, if you haven’t heard, the latest character additions to the game are Conan the Barbarian and the T-1000 Terminator. Now, the creator of Mortal Kombat, Ed Boon, has taken to X and disputed that claim. After noting some of Mortal Kombat 1’s accomplishments, such as the game remaining in the top fifteen most-played PlayStation 5 games, the developer talked about the future.
Ed Boon noted that the developers are excited to continue developing future DLC. However, they stopped short of revealing what content might be coming to the game next. It seems we might still have more fighters being added to the mix.
For now, all we can do is wait and see when the studio opts to reveal the next character addition or potential storyline content for the game. If you haven’t already picked up a copy of Mortal Kombat 1, you can now do so for the PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch platforms.
