There was a massive trailer drop last week. At the end of last week, we were treated to The Game Awards. This annual event not only holds awards to celebrate the accomplishments made by talented studios worldwide but also is a stage to highlight new games. One of the big trailers that helped start the show was The Witcher 4. Since the trailer dropped, developers have been going through media tours and conducting interviews with various outlets about the trailer and what they can expect from the game.
Of course, since we only have a single trailer to highlight the game right now, news and details about the title are somewhat scarce. However, in an interview with GamesRadar, the game director, Sebastian Kalemba, noted that they want to raise the bar with the new installment. It’s something that the studio strives to do with each release, as he points to Cyberpunk 2077 and their desire to make something bigger and better after The Witcher 3.
Meanwhile, Sebastian noted that The Witcher 4 is aiming to deliver a very immersive and ambitious experience for the franchise. While we don’t have any gameplay footage to showcase at the moment, the trailer was done as a pre-render from CD Projekt Red’s custom Unreal Engine 5 build. Still, the developers aspire to have a game with the same visuals as what we’ve seen in the latest trailer.
We definitely want to raise the bar with every video game that we create. This is what we did with Cyberpunk 2077 after The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and we want to apply all of the lessons learned from both of these experiences and incorporate them into The Witcher 4. You can look at the aesthetics of the trailer as a symbol of what we want to achieve. It’s pre-rendered footage on our custom Unreal Engine 5 build, and these are already the visuals that we are aspiring to have. This ambition is absolutely spread across all the departments at CDPR – our ambition is high, crazily high. – Sebastian Kalemba
Ambitions are certainly high for this team, but we’ll have to wait and see if they can deliver. We already know that CD Projekt Red has changed the development process to avoid another fiasco launch similar to Cyberpunk 2077.
Meanwhile, if you haven’t been keeping tabs on The Witcher 4, this installment is already confirmed to be a jumping-on point for newcomers to the franchise. Players will step into the role of Ciri this time around. However, we know that Geralt will be featured in the game, although the studio is not ready to say much more about it.
