Get strategic! Let’s look at some of the best new upcoming strategy games coming out in 2025.
#22 Noble’s Life: Kingdom Reborn
What does it mean to be a noble? Depending on the media you’re partaking in, it could be tons of things. But in Noble’s Life: Kingdom Reborn, you’ll have the chance to play as a noble at the lowest point in his life.
Specifically, the crown jewel of your lands has been destroyed. It’s up to you to rally your loyal subjects and rebuild what was lost. But how will you do that? What style or strategy will you use to reclaim what was stolen from you? That is your decision to make, and yours alone.
How you go about your journey will shape everything around you. So be sure you’re comfortable with what you do.
#21 Roman Empire Wars
Rome as a Republic or Empire was no stranger to war, and with Roman Empire Wars, you’ll be the one leading the legions to try and protect your realm. You are the newest emperor of the mighty empire, and there are enemies at the gate.
But these aren’t just barbarians. They are warriors of all types, and they want your head on a pike. So, build up your Roman Legions and ensure that your tactics and forces are superior in every way. Will you be able to continue Rome’s reign? Or will the inevitable fall come while you are on the throne?
#20 Ascent of Ashes
In a world where dangers are everywhere, you need to be mindful of all that’s around you and know how to protect yourself and others from harm. In Ascent of Ashes, that will be your task. You’ll venture out into the world to get supplies and resources that can be brought back to your base so you can build it up and take out forces that try to destroy what you have.
But you’re not alone! Protect your fellow survivors to ensure that they make it to the next day and the one after that! The world may be ruined, but there are still reasons to fight!
#19 Sid Meier’s Civilization VII
On the one hand, we know very little about Sid Meier’s Civilization VII. It was literally announced on a forum board for the game, and there weren’t any trailers or teasers about what the game would look like or play like.
On the other hand, that doesn’t really matter. Why? Because for 20+ years, this franchise has been one of the best worldbuilding titles mixed with strategy ever. While it naturally had its highs and lows, the game reinvented itself once again with its 6th entry and blew people away with how great it was. So now imagine how far they’ll go for the 7th entry.
#18 Carmen Sandiego
The name Carmen Sandiego is special to kids and adults of a certain age. You either grew up on the classic games and TV series that starred her, or you’re a fan of the new version that popped up on Netflix recently and revitalized the character. Either way, she’s getting a new game that’ll take her back to her roots while also having some new-school flair.
The game will be released via Netflix and will feature Carmen Sandiego trying to solve crimes and stop the evil V.I.L.E from doing dirty deeds all over the world. Use your wits and skills to save the day and prove why no thief is better than you.
#17 Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream
If you’re up for a deeply personal strategy game that’ll have you unraveling a conspiracy from top to bottom, you’ll want to check out Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream. You’ll play Hanna, a young woman whose brother goes missing. At first, the police go and search for him, but when you do the same, you’ll start to learn truths that tie not only to your brother, but the city itself and the people who control it.
You’ll soon get to play as different characters, each with skills that can help you solve the mysteries around you. So, pay attention, be smart, and fight to learn the truth!
#16 Kinstrife
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to truly be a knight in medieval times? If so, and you’re not willing to put the work in via LARPing, you’ll want to try Kinstrife. In the game, you’ll not just become a knight; you’ll become one who is allowed to travel all over the land. Through that freedom, you’ll be able to go to various castles, test yourself in tournaments against other knights, and see exactly how good you are.
The more glory you gain for yourself, the more you can do. So, suit up in that armor and see how far your weapons can take you.
#15 Ghost Keeper
Okay, how’s this for a twist? In Ghost Keeper, you won’t be playing the people trying to stop the ghost from haunting people. Instead, you’ll be the one commanding the ghosts, demons and monsters to try and scare the living so that you can have your way. That’s definitely unique. The good news is that you’ll have plenty of supernatural beings to command, and you’ll have to use their “special set of skills” to win the day.
However, the bad news is that there is a group called the Brotherhood that is trying to mess up your plans. Beat them back so you can continue with your “fun.”
#14 Copa City
You might not realize it, but when an event like the World Cup of Football, the REAL football, comes to a country, it’s a mad sprint to ensure that everyone and everything is set up properly for what’s about to happen. There are stadiums that need to be built, access to the event has to be smooth, you need to have plenty of businesses and stalls to get the people what they need during the matches and so on.
In Copa City, you’ll be the one in charge of making that happen, and it won’t be easy. Build to impress, build to last, and most importantly, build so that the event goes off without a hitch!
#13 Frostpunk 2 (PS5 XSX|S)
If you were a fan of the first game, you’ll definitely be a fan of the sequel. Frostpunk 2 takes the lone city of humanity to new heights, but the cost of doing so falls solely on you. You’ll take the role of Steward and attempt to guide the city to expansion and beyond, all the while trying to find the right balance between the factions that are growing more anxious with each passing day.
Each decision you make, or that the people make without you will affect the city in many ways. Do your best to keep the city afloat, or else you might find yourself losing more than just your job.
#12 Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era
Now, here is a franchise that is all about the strategy and wants you to partake in it in numerous ways. Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era will do something that the franchise hasn’t tried so far. Specifically, it’ll take you to an all-new continent that has only been mentioned in past games.
This place is ripe for the building but also ripe with dangers and new species to come into contact with. The strategy game has multiple modes to play in, including multiple versions of the campaign mode where you can increase the difficulty by restricting gameplay features. Either way, your next quest in this world is about to begin!
#11 Anno 117: Pax Romana
Next, we have another franchise that was literally built in the strategy genre, and has never been afraid to try new things. In Anno 117: Pax Romana, you’ll take on the role of a Roman governor within the year 117 AD. You’ll start out as a leader of a couple of provinces and then decide where you want to go from there. You could just do what is expected of you and help grow the empire, or you could venture off and see if there is something greater that the Roman Empire can be.
Either way, your guiding hand will influence the future, so be careful with each step you make.
#10 Mewgenics
Depending on how well you know your gaming history, you might know that Mewgenics was first announced a LONG time ago and was even canceled at one point. So, to hear that it’s back and it might be coming out in 2025 is a bit surprising.
In the game, you’ll play a bunch of cats. No, really, that’s what you’re doing. These cats are going on an adventure through a world that is totally nuts, and it’s up to you to keep them alive and then mutate them so that they can handle all that’s coming.
With numerous options to choose from, you might be surprised by how your cats end up after a while.
#9 The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy-
If you look into the developer of The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy-, you’ll soon find that they are the creators behind another fan-favorite series that forces you to learn the hard way the cost of making bad decisions.
In the game, you play a young man who is forcibly drafted into an academy that has a single goal you must achieve. That goal is to defend the academy for 100 days from various enemies. The good news is that you will have help in defending the place. However, that also means that there is the possibly of you accidentally getting your classmates killed. So you must move with precision every time, or deal with the loss.
#8 EVE: Galaxy Conquest
Are you ready to try to take on the galaxy and see what you can do with it? Of course you are, what else would you be here for? In EVE: Galaxy Conquest, you’ll find yourself put out into a galaxy that has numerous other people, factions, empires, and so on vying for their own piece of the place. What you do is up to you, and you’ll have plenty of choices to do what you want in this mobile title.
You can raise up an armada and take on any foe you find or work with other players to make key alliances to control the galaxy. It’s all up to you.
#7 Kaiserpunk
There are numerous city-builder titles out there for you to have fun with if that’s your jam. The game Kaiserpunk is attempting to do things on a more personal and smaller scale before you make the leap to try and become a global power. In this case, you’ll get to lord over a city-state that needs constant building and expansion. That means that every building you place will have to be placed with care if you to work off it and build more next to it later on.
Then, as you grow, you’ll see how you place on the world stage, which might have “thoughts” on your role over time.
#6 Two Point Museum
Look, if we’re being honest here, museums aren’t the most “riveting” of places unless you’re absolutely dedicated to visiting them. That’s where something like Two Point Museum comes into play. You will become a curator of a museum and have to work hard to create something that everyone will want to visit and will enjoy once they arrive. It won’t be easy, but if you get creative and use what you have to the fullest, you can make it work.
Then, as things start taking off, you’ll go around the globe and make new exhibits to further show off your talents! So, dream big, and see what kinds of museums you can craft!
#5 Rise of Industry 2
There’s a reason why the business world is such a cutthroat place. It’s one where you have to be on top of your game at every moment, or else you’re going to be swept away by a competitor who thinks they know better than you and have the resources to put you out of business.
In Rise of Industry 2, you’ll take on the role of someone who wants to meet every challenge that comes your way. If you think you can handle businesses of all kinds and manage everything that goes into running multiple corporations, then put your skills to the test to see how well you can do.
#4 Prison Architect 2
When you picture a prison, you often look at a structure that is meant to keep people in and ensure they can’t get out without great difficulty. In Prison Architect 2, you’ll have the chance to see if you can create a true supermax-style prison that no one can escape from. Oh, but don’t worry, there will be plenty of escape attempts by the inmates.
You’ll start simple and then slowly build up the prison as more inmates flood in. You must keep an eye on the prisoners, as they’re always scheming, and want nothing more than to get free.
Can you keep them locked down?
#3 Broken Arrow
When it comes to military strategy games like Broken Arrow, you aren’t just trying to win the battle, you’re trying to command massive forces that ensure you will get the victory. So, that means you’ll have to think about things on land, in the air, and within the water if you want to come out on top. Put on your general cap; you’re going to war!
Another key element here is who you want to side with. The game features the US and Russia, with unique units on both sides. No matter who you choose, you’ll have to fight to the fullest in these physics-based battles that will determine victory or defeat.
#2 Falling Frontier
One of humanity’s dreams is reaching out into the depths of space and seeing what they can create within it. In Falling Frontier, you’ll be part of a faction from Earth that has officially built up its first space station in a new part of space. This would be a time for celebration, if it wasn’t for your adversaries also being in the same part of space as you. Rude!
Thus, the battle begins to expand and defeat the other factions trying to upstage you. The name of the game here is truly strategy, as you’ll need to plan ahead and build up your fleet and logistics to ensure you win out in the end.
#1 Grit and Valor: 1949
Have you ever noticed that there are plenty of games that take real events like World War II and then spin them into an “alternate reality” take just for the heck of it? Grit and Valor: 1949 is one such title. In the game, you’ll be put in a dieselpunk world where World War II lasted far longer than it should’ve, and you’ll need to use the mechanized forces at your command to finally turn the tide and bring victory for your side.
It won’t be easy, and you’ll have to penetrate enemy territory to deliver the final blow to their forces. But, if you plan wisely, you can make it.
