There are times when a game developer must think “outside the box” to promote an upcoming title. How they choose to do so depends on who they are, the budget they’re willing to spend, and so on. For the upcoming Sonic X Shadow Generations, they’ve been doing a lot to highlight what’s coming, including the all-new content that features Shadow The Hedgehog. “The Ultimate Lifeform” has had quite a few…interesting stories…over the years, and Sega decided to bring in Terminal Montage to help “recap” everything that’s happened, even if it’s not exactly related to everything that’s coming up.
Oh, and if you think we’re kidding that Sega approved this, here’s the official tweet telling people to go check it out:
You can watch the video itself below, and while it is very tongue-in-cheek, it does cover various elements of Shadow’s complex history, all the while poking fun at all the things that have been made about Shadow, Maria, the Eggman’s, Rouge, Sonic, and even Emerl! The video even touches on all of the side games, such as the various racing titles, the minigame-focused ones, and so on.
It’s only a few minutes long, so if you have the chance to check it out, you should do so.
All the jokes and hilarious animation gags aside, Shadow the Hedgehog is making a big splash once again in 2024. Aside from the upcoming game, that arrives on October 25th, the “Ultimate Lifeform” will receive his own manga as well! As if that wasn’t enough, he’s also the main focus of the third Sonic movie that arrives in December. Oh, and did we mention he’s being voiced by Keanu Reeves in that film? Yeah, fans are really hyped for that, and they’re even betting that they can beat a certain Disney film that arrives on the same day! Ultimate lifeform indeed!
Regarding the generation’s title, it’s key to remind you that the Shadow sections of the game will be completely new. They’re meant to flesh out parts of his origin story, which naturally means Maria will be there and give him all-new powers to boot! His “Doom” powers will let him do new kinds of attacks and make him even more mobile. It’ll be interesting to see what this may lead to, including him possibly getting an all-new solo title! After all, he still kind of needs to be redeemed from that last one, you know?
