Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment is developing a third-person action/adventure Star Wars game, the studio announced in an update on its website today, May the 4th.
Director Stig Asmussen revealed the news, commenting “I am happy to announce our partnership with Electronic Arts and Lucasfilm to deliver a whole new adventure to the galaxy.
“We promise to pay respect to the Star Wars legacy at all times, a fact that will be constantly reinforced and honored as a central game design tenet,” he continued. “Fans should expect the exemplary level of quality first established at Respawn with Titanfall, a game that epitomizes our studio’s dedication to slick, larger-than-life action and fun, groundbreaking mechanics.”
EA’s Patrick Soderlund wrote on the publisher’s website, “Over the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to spend a lot of time with Vince Zampella and his group. Their obsession with making games that feel amazing has helped make Titanfall one of the most successful new game launches of this generation. And now, with a new team led by Stig Asmussen, we get to see what they can do when you combine that great attention to gameplay with the power of Star Wars.”
Soderlund added that EA studios including Visceral Games, DICE, Capital Games, BioWare, and Motive are all working on Star Wars games as well. Visceral’s Amy Hennig and Motive’s Jade Raymond are known to be collaborating on a Star Wars title.
The studio is also developing Titanfall 2, which will be properly revealed at E3 in June following a teaser last month.
Asmussen previously worked at Sony Santa Monica Studios on God of War III. He joined Respawn in 2014.
