Confused by that title? Well, you can play Steam games on MacOS! So, we made a list, in no particular order, to show you the best that you can play on that MacBook. Just be sure to check the requirements before you dive in! All of the games below featured MacOS dedicated system requirements on the store page through Steam. With that said, here are some of the best games available for the MacBook.
#20 7 Days To Die
Let’s start with a big open-world game, shall we? In 7 Days To Die, you are put in the world of the apocalypse and have to survive on your own or with other players. So, yeah, no pressure! How you survive is up to you! You can try to search through the rather large-scale world for supplies to use and places to live, or you can shack up with others and see if there really is strength in numbers.
Millions of people have played this game, and that means there are plenty of people to meet, fight, kill, and steal from depending on what your mood is!
#19 Stardew Valley
There are some games that are so well made that they transcend the genre they’re in to become cultural icons. Stardew Valley is one such title. The game is a farming simulator, and yet it’s one of the most successful video games ever. How does that work? Hey, if you make something of good quality, people will play it!
In this case, people loved that you could do whatever you wanted with your farm. You could make it big, small, specific to one kind of crop, it was up to you! Plus, you could go into the local town and build various relationships, giving you even more to do. It’s simple, it’s beautiful, and it’s something people still enjoy playing.
#18 No Man’s Sky
Want to go back to the more “big scale” games? No Man’s Sky is a title that has had a rather divisive history as many of you know. However, Hello Games got its act together and slowly started churning out content to expand upon what the base game offered, thus ensuring that it was what it promised long ago.
Just recently, they did a massive update that overhauled numerous worlds to make them seem so full of life! That means that now is the perfect time to see if this is the game you always wanted it to be! All of the DLC is included when you get it, so why not try it out again?
#17 Rust
If you’re looking for a title that guarantees you’ll have some action and that you can play it with a bunch of people, check out Rust.
After creating your character, you’ll be dropped in a world with nothing. No, really, you won’t even have clothes when you arrive, so that means you’ll need to make some for yourself! Regardless of what you do first, survival is the immediate and long-term goal. Lots of things are trying to kill you, including other players.
So, get what you need to survive, and stop others you meet before they put you down. Do you think you can handle that?
#16 Stray
So, you want something a bit more “tame?” We can work with that by showing you Stray. This beloved game took the world by storm when it arrived. You play a cat, a very nice-looking cat, who has been separated from its family and is now stuck in the human world despite the fact that there are no humans in sight.
Instead, there are robots everywhere, and some of them need your help to keep going in this life. You’ll also have a robot companion who will help you fend off rats and other threats. Can you help this cat get back to its family?
#15 Project Zomboid
Not a cat person? Well, are you a zombie fighting person? In Project Zomboid, you’ll be given the incredible task of surviving a zombie apocalypse. That shouldn’t be too hard, right? In this case, it absolutely is. You’ll be in two towns that the zombies constantly come back to. That means you’ll need to work hard to fortify your defenses, and give yourself weapons to fight back against the zombie horde.
Everything depends on how well you prepare for what’s ahead. If you don’t do things properly, you will die. You don’t have to go into the battle alone, though, as you can have a friend help you stay alive.
#14 Subnautica
Oh, you want a title that lets you “go deep” into things? Subnauticamight be able to help with that. The game places you as the survivor of a crash where your ship lands in the ocean. However, that ocean isn’t on Earth; it’s in an alien world! Just as bad, you need to think fast from the go to salvage supplies so you can make a home for yourself with the wreckage.
Once that’s done, you’ll need to dive deep into the ocean’s depths to learn more about this world, and see if there are other things you can get to help you survive. Just remember, the ocean is filled with dangerous creatures…
#13 Balatro
Here’s an interesting title that blends two very different kinds of gameplay styles to make something truly special. Balatro is a roguelike game, but the twist is that it features a deck of cards that we use for games like Poker. In fact, the whole point of the game is to use those basic cards to try and build up “synergies” that’ll allow you to take on foes and dispel the many combos they have at their beck and call.
The beauty here is that there is a near infinite amount of options for how you play the game and how you use the cards to get the advantage. So shuffle up and deal!
#12 Valheim
If card games aren’t your style, then perhaps you’d love to go to a mythology-inspired world where you can attempt to build a new life for yourself. In Valheim, you’ll end up in a new plane of existence and must start your journey to make something of what you see around you.
What will you build? That’s up to you! You can build grand halls to honor yourself, or, if you’re with other players, make a community that can house your clan and turn it into something mighty.
Just beware, there are other things in this realm that aren’t so kind. Craft weapons and armor so you can take on these threats while forging your new life!
#11 Lies of P
There are plenty of games that take inspiration from classic tales, and Lies of P is no different. In the game, you play a unique version of Pinocchio, who goes to a city that is befallen by evil, all so you can find Gepetto.
The journey won’t be easy, as you’ll need to teach Pinocchio various techniques to fight the machines that rule within this place, and you might even meet a curious version of the blue fairy from the storybooks.
The game’s dark appeal drew many to it, so perhaps we might get a sequel. All the more reason to play the first game now.
#10 Dome Keeper
When you’re constantly under attack, using your time wisely is a must. In Dome Keeper, you’ll find that out the hard way.
The game takes place in waves. Specifically, there will be waves of enemies that attack you constantly and attempt to breach your dome. When that happens, you’ll fight them back and attempt to keep the dome from cracking.
When the enemies are briefly pushed back, you’ll dig under your city to try and get items to help you repair the damage and bolster what your dome can do. Just don’t take too long! Otherwise, you might find your dome in serious peril.
#9 Hades
Behold, one of the greatest video games ever made, and easily one of the best titles of recent years. Hades is an epic roguelike set within the realm of Greek Mythology.
You play Zagreus, the son of Hades who has a simple task ahead of him. Oh, did we say “simple?” We meant incredibly hard. It is a roguelike, after all. Zagreus wants to get out of the underworld, but to do so, he’ll have to go through numerous enemies, beasts and even gods!
Then, once he gets through a loop, he’ll have to do it all over again! Get boons from the gods to make your trials easier, and see if you can finally get your freedom!
#8 Hollow Knight
Behold, one of the…oh, we just said that line, didn’t we? Well, Hollow Knight does fit that mold, and it’s yet another roguelike title, so that makes it just as enjoyable.
The difference here is that instead of the underworld, you’re a knight trying to work their way through a lost kingdom. The place is filled with various beings, and it’s up to you to try and fight off all the bugs that hinder your way to treasure and glory.
Between the main game and the DLC content, there’s plenty to try. Plus, we still don’t know when that sequel is coming out…
#7 Shadow of the Tomb Raider
While not the best of the reboot trilogy featuring Lara Croft, Shadow of the Tomb Raider does take many of the elements that the previous two entries did and tries to make them even grander. No matter what, you’re guaranteed a fun adventure experience as you work with Lara to get through numerous areas, solve puzzles, and defeat the various bad guys who seem to think you’ll let them just take over the world.
They seriously don’t know Lara Croft, which will be their undoing! The game does offer a lot, and it’s unclear when the next game in her line will arrive, so why not have fun with this one while you wait?
#6 SnowRunner
Admittedly, this isn’t a game you would expect from this kind of list, and we understand why! SnowRunner isn’t about being the best racer on a snowy surface or something to that effect. Instead, the game is about doing jobs on the iciest roads around and hoping you make it to the destination without wrecking your ride.
Many people do this today, and now you get to see it from their perspective as you try to build a trucking empire by building up funds and completing jobs.
Plus, you get to pimp your semi to make it able to withstand all challenges. Doesn’t that sound fun?
#5 Disco Elysium
Alright, if you want something a bit more action-packed while also giving you great RPG feels, Disco Elysium is exactly what you need. In fact, some might say this is one of the greatest RPGs ever built.
How so? The game puts you as a detective in a certain area, and then lets you run wild. No, really, the joy of this RPG is in the choices you make. More than any other title in this list, you have the option to make numerous decisions that affect everything around you.
You can be the best or worst person in the world, and it’ll all be because of what you decide. You’re tempted to try it, aren’t you?
#4 Nine Sols
There are many heroes in folklore who always do things for noble reasons. In Nine Sols, things are slightly different. You go to a realm and play a “hero” who isn’t exactly what they appear to be. Sure, they are trying to take down some oppressive rulers, but as you continue the story, you’ll see there’s more layers to it than that.
The art style is hand-drawn, and the gameplay is difficult if you don’t pay attention. Use various techniques to take down foes and get the revenge that the “hero” seeks.
#3 Crusader Kings III
Ah, you’re looking for a grand medieval-style adventure to have fun in? We have that, too, with Crusader Kings III. One of the beauties of this title is that you’re not just raising up a noble house and attempting to conquer the world; you’re attempting to conquer time itself by ensuring that your house and lineage live on.
That means you’ll have to work within the system to gain allies who won’t question your rule, have heirs with others, and hope that they are as worthy of the crown as you. The game will go on as long as your family goes on, so try not to die out.
#2 Slay the Spire
Have you noticed how many roguelike games we have on this list? Well, here’s one last one for you! Slay the Spire is a unique game that blends deckbuilding and fantasy elements to create something that’ll be different for every player.
As you ascend the spire in question, you’ll have to construct a deck to take on the beasts and monsters that lurk within. Don’t think your deck is “good enough,” or else you’ll die. You need to constantly build and improve it, then hope it’s enough for what’s coming next.
If you die, ascend again and see the spire in a whole new light!
#1 Baldur’s Gate 3
Finally, and gloriously, we end with one of the best games of the last few years and possibly of all time: Baldur’s Gate 3. Yes, this title has been out for over a year now, and if you’re not down with all that goes in it, you’re on the outside looking in!
This game is packed stories and characters that will make you want to play it repeatedly just to see what new scenes you can get and options you can choose. It’s truly robust and you’ll love it.
Plus, let’s not forget the most important aspect of the game: the romances. Karlach, forever, don’t try to convince us otherwise.
