The battle royale genre blew up, and there are some staple IPs that we can look at as still being the juggernauts for that genre. Fortnite is one game that continues to see a massive influx of players logging in to enjoy. It’s been around for ages now, and with it comes a long line of updates and adjustments to the gameplay experience. But if you’re fond of going back and enjoying the earlier version of the game, then you might be interested in Fortnite OG.
Fortnite OG first came into the scene last year when Epic delivered a jump back in time. For a season, players would get pulled back to the earlier updates of the game. Stripping back some of the features and going more barebones to the Fortnite experience proved incredibly popular. Fans have flocked to the game, causing a new peak in the number of active players. So, we’re not surprised that Fortnite OG is returning this year. However, it might not actually be tied to a season. Instead, this new update could be a standalone game mode for players to enjoy.
This news comes from a leaker known as Hypex. The leaker noted that this Fortnite OG Part 2 is being worked on as a separate mode. Apparently, a new playlist tag was made, and it’s left fans wondering if Epic players should incorporate this into the game permanently. That might relieve fans, knowing they can go back and enjoy the original gameplay experience at their leisure. However, it would also lead some players to wonder if this game mode would continue to rotate through the different original updates, giving fans more restrictions on what is available during a match.
Of course, there is far more coming to Fortnite than just the upcoming Fortnite OG Part 2. We are still waiting for information to emerge on that front, but the game is also no stranger to crossovers. We’ll likely continue to see plenty of franchises represented in the game through skins. So for now, we’ll just have to wait and see what Epic has planned for the game and if Fortnite OG will return only for a season again or perhaps that more permanent fixture fans might be a little more hopeful for. In the meantime, while we wait, you can check out the trailer for Fortnite OG when it dropped last year below.
