Spider-Verse Game Leaked From Insomniac Games Attack

December 13, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

A multiplayer Spider-Man game could be coming our way.

There’s no shortage of love for the Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise. From the comic books, movies, to the games, we’ve spent a ton of time watching characters like Peter Parker and Miles Morales save the day. We’ve just recently received Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac Games, so it would be a good little while before we get our next serving for this franchise. But it looks like a couple of Spider-Man game projects were leaked ahead of their planned announcement. I’m sure you’re already familiar with the ransomware attack against Insomniac Games, but it seems that this attack has already unveiled a potential multiplayer Spider-Man game.

Thanks to a Reddit thread, we’re finding out that some of the unannounced projects from Insomniac Games are based around Spider-Man. There’s apparently a Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 coming, but beyond that, there’s also a Spider-Verse game. These projects have nothing more right now than just the names. But it has some fans online who hope this Spider-Verse title is a multiplayer experience. Just how that would work remains to be seen, but fans have expressed interest in even a battle royale game where players all have their own customized Spider-Man character duking it out within the city.

More information could come out if the group attacking Insomniac Games leaked more information. According to the reports, the group has just a few days left before selling the data to the highest bidder. Typically, ransomware groups will hack a company and steal precious data with a demand for a fee. These attackers are then either paid the demanded ransom to release the data back to the hands of the owner or, if not, it’s sold online. Sometimes, this data is released online, so we’re not entirely sure what this group possesses from Insomniac Games.

We’ve seen statements that Sony is investigating the attack, but beyond that, we’re waiting to see if anything more comes of this. The biggest leak that could hurt Insomniac Games in terms of projects being worked on is the upcoming Wolverine game. Select content from that game project that has already been released online, such as screenshots. But there’s potential that the entire storyline could be leaked out, which would be a pretty big blow to the title. If you don’t recall, we’ve only seen a small tease of this upcoming Wolverine game. So we’ll just have to wait and see if the developers are able to share anything more on this upcoming title or if this leak pushes back the development to rework the experience for players.
